Finally happened - sliding console lid broke

I was cleaning the center console and i flipped it up to clean the sliding thing cuz it was all sticky and it was annoying to open and close, while i was wiping it with my cloth the little pastic thing snapped in half =(. it still opens and close but its weird, it slides to easily. i gotta get this fix =(

Welcome to the club

Had that happened to me as well. Fixed it with crazy glue.:D

My plastic slider clip broke just like yours. The dealer replaced it for me and provided an extra one in case it happens again. It unsnaps quite easily and is replaced in a matter of seconds. Even if you need to buy one, it probably doesn't cost more than a couple bucks.

Common problem unfortunately...... blame Mazda, cheap plastic used. :(

samsonite1 10-18-2004 06:35 AM

My car came with a spare in the ashtray.

It broke once and I fixed it.

It broke again and the dealer fixed it.

So that's what the odd bit of stray plastic was. Hope I kept it. I suppose you're talking about the little latch piece (about 2 cm long) near the front left edge of the sliding lid. Mine broke half-way, but still works.

HeelnToe 10-18-2004 12:13 PM

Broke? Are we talking about that small black plastic clip that snaps onto the tab sticking out of the front-left side of the lid? It normally slides into the groove in the console...

Mine pops off every other time I open the lid. Takes 5 seconds to pop it back on, but it's a pain. I gotta remember to try superglue.

I'm told that my opening the lid without sliding it back weakened it, thus the problem. I'm sure I probably yanked it open once in the beginning before it was all the way back.

Seems to be a very common "problem."

i've had so many lill' poeces fall out of my center console i think the only thing holding ti together is hopes and prayers..lol. I honestly don't knwo where they all came from which is why i haven't fixed it. I had liek 4 pieces fall out over a 6 month period

See pic. Clip snaps onto that tab. Mine pops off every other time I slide the door back.

Almost all of mine popped off after i had to force the thing to open upward while it was shut (because I got a can of redbull stuck in there). THey snap back in easily if you have them to snap back in.

Dealer replaced my lid under waranty. The part is about 35 US so not too bad

Zedcaster 10-18-2004 11:28 PM

I've had both the inner and outer lid replaced and finally the whole font inner comartment and lid(s). My console lid now stays back when slid open, even under moderate braking. NO more coffee spills.

Add me to the group :(

cgrx 10-19-2004 12:05 AM

The part that the plastic attaches to on mine snapped.....I think the dealer leaned on it too hard when installing my spoiler. hmmm

KrazieKave 11-02-2004 05:42 PM

happened to me... took it to the dealership replaced it for free (3 months after i purchased the car).

soon after.. my alarm remote died.. >_<

mitchfried 11-03-2004 05:40 AM

So that's the piece I found in the back of the car. I saved it just in case I ever figured out where it came from.

Ktreece777 11-04-2004 10:39 PM

truemagellen 11-05-2004 01:50 AM
