Fender Strakes???

Is there any sense in buying Oem fender strakes for $200 bucks?
Is the material better then those sold for less claiming to be a better material?

I am interested in buying some, but the prices and material quality is giving me a headache. I don't want to buy some that will corrode or rust and damage the car body and paint. If anyone knows anything about this please let me know ...

Thanks,
Adam

hi adam, my name is adam too..

just dont get strakes. the $200 mazda ones are better then the 60 or 100 dollar ones. if you are going to get them, get the mazda ones.... but personally. i dont think they are worth 200 for 4 little things of metal.

plus you'll get people on the boards calling your car a crossfire :P

some of the cheaper ones only have 1 screw from what i am told and if you over tighten, even just a little, it wont be as tight because it gets stripped.

ever seen crooked strakes? thats why....

also i believe the mazda ones are supposed to be molded better to the curves of the car and such, and i think they have soft padding on the back to prevent paint scratches.

however i do know many people are happy with the non oem ones. for me, it was to much money for such a little thing. i mean, i consider 60 to be a lot to spend on them, and those are the cheapest ones.

I bought chrome ones from r13rotary.com or something like that, don't ever remember the name of the site. They look good, and lasted. But the one thing thats weird is that the top one seems to slant slightly up in the back. But I would NOT buy OEM in this case. aftermarket work just as good, and you'll save $120+

I have had strakes from both RX8strakes.com rotary13b1.com.

The RX8stakes ones are plastic and do not line up as well as the cast metal ones from rotary13b1.com. With the RX8strakes ones you really need to use the doublestick tape they come with, while andy's (rotary13b1) fit just like the $200 OEM ones.

The rx8strakes ones I got painted and the paint flaked and was not glossy, but the chrome ones I got from Andy, while they didn't flake, they look like the chrome was less than perfect, and looks aged now.
