rear plate removed, you can see the rotor and apex seals, also you can clearly see where is the intake side and exhaust side by the number of cooling fins. There's also the two dowel pins. :D

OS Rocks!
Too bad I'm only flying 1/4 scale these days. A rotor-powered R/C plane would be cool! Everything I have is either gas or really huge glow. |
rotating assy
|
rotor housing and front plate with bearing, you can see the glowplug hole it's aprox 1/16 inch diameter!!
|
And finally, the intake and exhaust ports. They are aprox 1/4 inch diameter
|
For those wondering, the pink oily substance is just that, oil. I keep them oiled for long life
|
...yeah, i was just going to say that those ports are monsterous!! very awesome.
|
I was thinking about making them bigger, what do you think?
|
entirely possible, and always better... the sleeves are cast blocks, probably bored out, right??? (they look way bigger from the outside) just bore some more
...just need to adjust the idle screw up a bit... or more... :o |
I seriously thought about that but then I'll mess up the intake and exhaust timing, and probably lose some low end :D I thought about maybe widen them to make them more ellipse shaped without going higher or lower on the timing. I need a peri port expert's advise! The outside sleeve's ID is about 7/16 inch and the actual port is 3/16 inch (smaller than the 1/4 inch I previously thought) I would need a different carb or port it too.
|
That's so cool! I have wanted to purchase one of those OS Wankels for years.. just never had the right project for it. Would love to swap it into my R/C Heli..
Does it sound any different when its running than a standard .30 2 stroke? |
I'm confused. First, why did you pull the engine out of your RX8, and second, why is it so tiny? I mean I knew the Renesis was smaller than other engines, but man that's tiny.
|
That's the coolest. Now all we need is to make 1/4 scale RX-8 kits for our kids. :)
|
Yeah, it'd be pimp to put one of those into an RC car of some sort. The only thing I'm aware of was someone putting one into an RC monster truck..
I looked at my gas powered truck.. looked at the OS Wankel... kept on looking, and still couldn't figure out how to do it ;) |
It's a single rotor RC engine basoically :D
BTW, that little bugger is cool. Dont forgot to turbocharge it! :D Originally posted by emailists I'm confused. First, why did you pull the engine out of your RX8, and second, why is it so tiny? I mean I knew the Renesis was smaller than other engines, but man that's tiny. |
At first I thought it was going to turn out to be a Renisis (side ports). Now I'm dissapointed. Even the intake isn't a side port!
Very nice. |
