Any way this morning i started up my car and i let it warm up all the way and then i started to drive off to work. I got about half a mile when the car boged once and then drove off and then a second later my engine light came on and the car died. I started it and then it would start but it was sputtering and shaking. I then put it in to first gear and tryed to drive away and it would sputter and and start to die. Does it sound like i need to replace the engine? I had bought the car about 2 months ago. It had 39000 miles. It is a 2004 mt. I made sure after i bought it that all the recalls were done on it. Only 2 out of like 6 were done. I ended up geting them done and geting an oil change done. I have been keeping an eye on the oil. I carry a quart of oil in the car all the time. I have not flooded it myself. I dont know about the owners before me. I redline it about once a day to keep the carbon out. Again i dont know if the other owners have done that. I was going to get new plugs and coils next week. They might be the original ones in the car right now. I am taking the car into the dealership tomorrow.

Coils and wires and you may be okay.

But.................have them check the cat since you will be at the dealer and have them also run a compression check.

I took it into day and they told me that it was the cat. They said was backed up and it need to be replaced. They said that was why it was sputtering and backfireing. I hope they are right. They all so said that it was free because it was part of a recall.

Ok. Will Thursday i was supposed to get the car back with the new cat. They had called yesterday and told me that the cat wouldnt be in until Today(Friday). I called to day to see how it was going and the woman on the phone told me that the service tech was on the phone with a mazda tech and she would inform me of what was going on later. When I got off of the phone i thought that it was the engine that was going bad. An hour later she called and told me that i would need to get a new master air flow Solenoid. She said that the car was running but it was still having problems. I ask if there were certain that this was the problem. She said no not for sure but this is what the mazda tech had said. I told her that i know about the engine breaking down on these cars after awhile. She said yes she know and that was what the mazda tech had thought of first but wanted to try the master air flow. She also said that becouse i am still under Warranty that i will be taken care of and not have to pay. I dont even have to pay for the air flow solenoid. So i will have to wait until next week to see what the deal is.
