Blew another fuse today. When i got to work this morning it was fine. When i went to lunch, as i was patiently waiting in line, i tried to run the AC. It was cold for a few seconds then got warm... never got cold again until i started moving. I smelled some coolant and shut her down while the gauge was still in the "normal" range. Checked the fuse...... gone (bye-bye $4). I guess i'm gonna tear down and find the fans. I see (3) relays that say "cooling fans 1-2-3". I'm guessing low speed, high speed, and ???. Damn this car lol... my beater car is 4 times as old and 8 times the miles and its fan(s) work great.

alz0rz 06-03-2008 12:27 PM

probably blew the fuse this time because the taurus fan puts more load on it?

Jedi54 06-03-2008 01:13 PM

bigger fuse, problem solved. :D:

nycgps 06-03-2008 03:03 PM

I pull my fan fuse today and look at it, hmm, it looks fine to me, the shell its black I cant really see the inside.

if it blew will the pins turn black or something ? mine looks all shinny (2 silver 2 copper color)

My fan works, tested, but I just wanna know what it will look like if its blows up one day.

LoudxB 06-03-2008 03:20 PM

Seems like you pulled the relay... check the fuse, its called "Fan".

RenKat 06-03-2008 03:49 PM

Question

Is the #2 fan on the drivers side.
I was under the hood the other day and I spun both fans by hand, the one on the drivers side seemed stiff like the bearings are going bad.
If this is the case that would explain fuses blowing.

shaunv74 06-03-2008 03:57 PM

It sounds like something is stuck Maybe the grommet from your airbox. either way yes that is probably what caused the fuse to blow.

LoudxB 06-03-2008 10:06 PM

Dug down to the fans tonight and the passenger one was locked up. It wasn't stuck on anything and after one hard push i got it to spin. It seemed very rough so i decided to pull them out. Wow is that a PITA. I think i did more damage than i'm gonna be fixing. Could Mazda have made that any tighter of a "fit"? I'm going to install new fans for now. Oh what a great vehicle choice i made.

look close for the rubber grommet or a rock. it could be an easy fix.

with summer quickly approaching, guess I better check mine as well.

nycgps 06-04-2008 01:21 PM

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ...

Ok, I need someone to verify something for me.

I pull the driver side fuse panel out, pulled every single one of them to look until the last one, which is the "Room" fuse.

ok, the Room fuse should be 15A right ?

when I first saw my fuse it saids "10" on it. I was like "I thought it suppose to be 15?" then I look at the plastic cover, which should tell you what rating of fuse suppose to go in there. ok it saids "15" ... I was like "wtf ?" , then when I look at the fuse closer it seems that "someone" has "pulled" my "Room" fuse b4, replaced it with a "10" AND its NOT EVEN ALIGNED CORRECTLY !!! the fuse's legs are not even in the socket, its aligned to the *left*. I pull it out and replaced it with the spare 15a fuse on the side.

who the FUXK touched my room fuse !!!!! (I need to get my inspection done, and I just pulled my room fuse ... everything resets. Great, gotta wait another 100 miles)

Ok, now the Radiator thing, my fan works fine, but I think both my Radiator cap has a problem.

When the car has reach its *operating temperature*, if you open the radiator Cap at this time(car shut off), it *suppose* to release the pressure and you will hear some *zzZZZzzzzz...* noise as the pressure trying to escape, right ?

but When I open my cap, I dont hear any noise, its like the cap is not even there in the first place.

hmm, I checked but I dont see any coolant leak anywhere. I have 2 caps, 1 stock one and an Aftermarket one rated at 1.3 bar (Made by ARC Japan).

Both of them gone bad at the same time ???

If its not the cap, could it be the *Coolant bottle* thats leaking pressure? Cuz I checked all hoses and the radiator itself, no signs of Coolant leaking. the only place left would be the bottle itself, maybe near the cap area ?

RedDragonRX8 06-04-2008 01:28 PM

dude this is exactly what happened to me. turns out I was popping fuses too. there was a short causing both fans to draw to much current which popped the fuses. replace your fans and your fuse. simply putting in a bigger fuse will worsen the problem and cause things to melt or worse.

Mazmart 06-04-2008 01:40 PM

Jackson,

Have your system pressure tested. You can test the caps and you can test the rest of the system.

Paul.

hmm nope

maybe I should

Just go to any garage and ask for pressure test ?

alz0rz 06-04-2008 02:52 PM

CRAP.. my fuse blew AGAIn.. 2nd time in a week.. in Manhattan traffic. My water temp went up to 240.. I had a spare fuse this time around.

Any ideas, anyone?

nycgps 06-04-2008 03:13 PM

Paul !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HMMMMM mmmmmmmm ...

Well, I just went down to look at my coolant again, this time I peek into the coolant bottle and *kinda* notice a lot of *white foam stuff* plus some *oil pattern like* stuff floating on top of the coolant .... is that suppose to be there ?

If there is a coolant leak somewhere in the engine, wont the engine just splutter & stuff ?

hmmmmm ... maybe its time to take everything apart to see if theres any leak ?

or maybe its just the cap not holding pressure ?

Hows that Mazda wang feel? Dig down to your fans and see how they feel when you turn them. My passenger one was stuck and now spins very rough. New ones coming soon!!!

alz0rz 06-04-2008 04:04 PM

How many fans are down there? If its okay for the next few days I'll let them be. When I pull my bumper apart to install my intake I'll check them out in detail. I will only be highway miles the next few days to work so I'll be okay, I hope.

you wont see them from that side . Best way to inspect the fans is to remove the intake then remove the plastic tray under the intake ...... should only take 10 mins .

alright, removing the intake box itself is easy.. that plastic tray is just a few screws?

two - last time i counted - heh .
Very easy way to test your fans :

sit with the car at idle and just wait making sure the temp does not go above normal . After about 2-3 mins you will hear the 1st fan come on -you will need to be close to the front because it is not that loud.
To check the second fan you could remove the relay for the first fan and then do the same test till the second fan kicks in - should not take long maybe 5 mins .
Having a proper temp guage to make sure you don't get too hot and to check at what temp the fans kick in would not be silly either .....
