a number of new owners have reported this phenominon, and seems to be normal. i would suppose it's simply a small measure to go toward helping post shut-down cooling (eliminating heat soak).

I have hear of this with I think some honda's...

It only seems to happen after I have used the A/C. The temp guage always seems to stay two ticks to the left with/without A/C. Though I always make sure I shut everything down completely before I shut the engin off, so when I start it there is no draw.

I believe it's thermostatic - they come on when/if the coolant temperature is over a certain high threshold, and run until it drops below a lower threshold. Exactly what those numbers are, I don't know. Doubtless the workshop manual will reveal all when it becomes available.

CWB's right that it was normal thermal-sensed operation on at least some hondas. I know my 91 integra's fan would run here and there, seemingly dependent on how hot it was outside + how spirited I was driving.

It's good to see it on the 8 in my eyes.

It's normal, will run for 10 min after ignition off.

Only runs when temp is above specified level. This was an add on to the FD RX-7 to combat high engine bay temps.
One of the triggers on the FD RX-7 was that the main (non-A/C) fan had to be running ~1 minute before the car was turned off.

I'm sure the triggers are very similar on the RX-8.

The FD RX-7 had a separate module behind the ECU that had a flying lead comming out of it that could be attached via a switch to ground to turn the fans on any time you like.

By doing this ~1 min before turning off the car you can force the fans to stay on after the key is out, about the only use I've ever found for a turbo timer.

The only caveat was that the switch had to be turned off once the fans kicked in after the car was turned off, or the batery would drain from the open circuit.
