Engine cover????
Does it actually do anything other than look pretty?
Will the engine get dirty without it?
Just wondering because I'd like to leave it off.

Dunno about the engine cover, but the battery cover DOES protect it from heat from other part of the car (namely the engine). I wonder if the cover is more to protect what is outside of the engine than the engine itself...

Yes it does do something. It helps keep the engine cool. I would really NOT suggest you leave it off. Im not sure exactly what the name of the thread is but there is another thread here somewhere that explains it in more detail.

It is supposed to direct air underneath it to cool the engine. I have pretty much had it off (doesn't fit the MS Strut Bar) since the get go & haven't had any issues.

I say leave it off. Even if it does cool the engine a little it is an eye sore. when I lift the hood I would like to see the engine not cheap plastic. But it really is your car and u do what u would like to it.

I have the MS Strut brace and the REVi intake and I Dremel tooled the openings wider on the ends of the cover and I dremeled down the cross bracing that lined up with the brace and it now fits fine. Be sure to peel back the foam from the ends because it can be re-laid down after your dremmeling to protect the carbon fiber on the strut. It takes a while to do it but I had also heard the cover would make the Rotary run cooler and I am in Texas and need all the cool I can get. And on a side note... my a/c works fine (but all my windows are tinted)

^thats not normal...you're missing your cover..did it come from the dealership like that??
I'm debating to leave the cover off for a few days to see if it helps keep it cooler. Living in fla, the heat index is always around 102-104 and like sombody else posted, my fan will run for a good 20, 30 min after i turn the car off..somtimes longer.

i leave mine on, i dunno if it helps cool the engine or not, but I just keep it there when im driving. when I get home and park the car i pop the hood and take it off to help the heat escape.
As far as Jalibrandi goes :
This is what the engine bay of your 04 SHOULD look like.
bottom of the engine from left to right : ECU cover, Battery cover, white coolant overflow bottle, airfilter box, fuse panel cover and in the center the engine cover. If you dont have all of those, then there is something missing from your car, talk to your dealer. the ECU cover and Battery cover are important cause they help bring in cool air from the bumper to keep those parts cold.
The 05 cars look the same under the hood only the upper left black bottle (washer fluid) is white not black.
