I was running Redline in my transmission (and diff) last year and I had a persistent sticky 1st and 2nd gear when the transmission was cold. I also had a weird vibration noise that occurs when in 2nd, 4th, or 6th gear.

I switched over to Eneos after a recommendation from one of the guys at Black Halo Racing and what a difference! No more sticky gears when cold and when the trans is hot, the gears just float in.

Still have that vibration noise which I guess is either the fact that I have a short shifter (so more cabin noise) or there's something up with the shaft those gears are on...

Anyways, moral of the story is switch to Eneos gear oil.

I bought a few quarts of Eneos gear oil 2 months ago when it was on sale

I know they're good stuff but I just changed my tranny oil about 10-15K miles ago (MT-90) and same thing for rear diff(Mobil1) and I never had any problem.

I might do it soon tho, because I'm the kind of guy who did 3 coolant flush a year ------- so I guess I'm crazy enough to do another gear oil flush even if it has plenty of life left. just waiting for my FC to be done, I need those jackstand (I have 6 and used 4)

I have been running Eneos 75W90 for almost a year with about 1500 miles on the oil. I am still a happy camper. With Eneos Gear Oil, the gears and syncros are somewhat louder though.

Again I have no issues with my current MT-90/Mobil1 setup ... I dunno, my FC's tranny is apart right now hmmmmmmmm ..................

MazdaManiac, Flashwing, and myself all have been using the Eneos for quite a while and it still works like a charm (despite all the GL4 versus GL-5 controversy). I guess Blackstone Labs knows how to perform long-term oil studies.........

Just did my tranny &differential today with this stuff (also bought from amazon ) and wow.... much smoother shifting!

I was a little concerned about it being GL5 (not realizing until after I purchased it) and reading all the horror stories of using GL5 in an 8, but after doing several searches & finding flashwing's posts & data to back up the Eneos oil (while those who opposed its use couldn't provide ANY...) I decided to go ahead and use it.

i thought gl5 oil is also recommeded grade for the tranny? The only issue that we have heard of was royal purple's maxgear oil. I mean i had it never had a problem. So dunno. Still havent put eneos into the tranny, no time. And winter is here will be storing my 8 soon. Guess im gonna have to do it next spring.

I thought GL5 wasn't recommended for the transmissions because of possible issues with the brass synchros? Could be a bunch of internet crap though.

I've been running Redline MT-90 and have been happy with it so far.

Y16M-D aka Stock S1 6 Speed transmission works with EITHER GL-4 or GL-5. using my home computer and confirm it with the docs.

anyway I used both before (MT-90 and RP MaxGear) and both ok.

what I'm thinking is, it's more important to change the fluid more often, many people wait till the "recommended" interval which is like what, 60K ? jesus even at 15K I can see so many crap sticking on the magnet, and the magnet can "attract" so much that anything extra will be flowing around in the tranny with the oil ... not a good thing.

I drive pretty hard and my tranny is still good as day 1, have 63K on odo now (not driving as much lately) and I'm sure my 10-15K tranny oil change helps.

I'm at ~55K and just changed my transmission / differential oil with the Eneos recommended by the BHR guys. I've only had the chance to back it out of the driveway and back into the garage and can already feel the difference. May be just that it's new oil, but the Eneos is worlds better than whatever was in there before.

After the drive to work, I’d have to agree. I’ll be driving ~125 miles total today, so I’ll have to keep an eye on it.

need input regarding the use of this GL-5 in my mt tranny? I have 4qts. of this stuff. whats the difference between this and other oils regularly mentioned here? would it not be good for the internals of my transmission?

Just ordered the Eneos 75w90 on amazon. Was originally planning to go Redline. But after reading Flashwings review and BHR's page ive reconsidered. Im expecting to feel a difference since I have no idea when the gear and diff oil in my car were changed and im assuming their original Mazda fluids.

You will feel a difference coming from OEM fluid or whatever may be in there. Eneos is a little slicker feeling than redline MT-90. You'll be happy.

^After switching to the Eneos I did feel a difference. Its been about 200~ miles so far and my tranny shifts like butter compared to whatever was in their before. No more notchy shifts and the shifter just slips into gear as opposed to having to slam into gear. Also my shifter doesn't vibrate as much as it used to.

Precisely....anything will be better than OE Fluids after years and years of use, and then renew with fresh 'whatever'.

Long term use is what I look for, how box performs @ high RPM changes when hot, or 'normal' operating temperatures.

Eunos appears VG.
