Effects of overheating..
 
A little more than a week ago I overheated due to my radiator fan fuse blewing and being in the city.. i believe my coolant temp topped off at 265.

I've now been seeing my water temp at 110c in the city lately.. a bit worried. (it's been 90+ these last 2 days but it's been running hot since it overheated..) Before the incident it would not go above ~101c even in the worst of days, but the weather wasn't as hot as its been lately.. so...

Could it be the new coolant mix is THAT less efficient? I haven't done a full flush just topped off what purged when it overheated

I also noticed that when the car is 100c+ and I have the A/C on the A/C compressor clicks on and off every few minutes or so and I get a rough idle to accompany the click...

Suggestions, what to look for?

I believe if the water temp hits a certain point the A/C will automatically shut off

Well. seriously I think u should recheck ur cooling system completely b4 u hit the road again. shit I mean its 99 degrees out there right now. I dont think u should drive out like that.

I'm hoping its just a bad coolant mix since a crapload of coolant overflowed and I topped it all off with water that the PA dudes gave me

Later in the day I added a bit of coolant to top it extremely off that Chrism spared..

I know I know. if it was 265 Celsius , ur car should've blown up already.

but still, that is just Crazy hot and there could be certain damage to your engine. at least its not very healthy in the long run.

U better find out why is it happening b4 u drive again.

I already panic when my car was going over 100 Celsius last week. after countless hours of hair and time lost. finally found the problem to be the coolant overflow tank, the tab to hold the Radiator cap is broken, thats why its not holding pressure. Oh you might want to check that too.

you living close by the waters right ?

go down and check the coolant overflow tank first. I think when the temp gets too hot it might blow the fan's fuse too.

Yep, right by the water.

Will do, was messing around with my intake this morning and didn't notice anything in particular.. I really wanted to get at my fans but it was too freaking hot and humid out that I didn't feel like taking apart my intake/battery/etc.

you dont really need to take anything out, its easy to spot.

if your system builds pressure. when your engine is at *operating* temp, put a piece of cloth on your radiator cap and open it(be careful), if there were no air in the system and the cap was holding pressure, you should hear a zZZzzzzz sound as the pressure in the system is trying to escape.

but if u do not hear anything, something is wrong, and its time to find out the cause.

I'd suspect air in the system. If you lost a lot of coolant, then just topping it off isn't enough. You need to go through the process for bleeding all of the air out. You should be able to find that somewhere on the site, or it's likely someone who knows will post it.

Just to be gloomy - on a conventional engine overheating can lead to a cracked block or blown head gasket, which often is a cause of future overheating. I presume something similar can happen with a rotary. But start by purging air from your cooling system.

For a Rotary, the "overheated" crack will most likely start at around the spark plug holes. then it will slowly spread until of course, coolant runs into the engine.

is pretty easy to bleed air out of the system, park at the steepest incline you can find in your area. then just top it off to full, idle at 3000~ rpm for couple of minutes. let it go. let it cool off a bit, then do the same thing again.

after that, check and see if it has pressure (by removing the cap, remember, cover it with a piece of cloth b4 u do so in case the water splash around, u will not get burn)

I went out and found my coolant level at less than 3/4 of the overflow resoirvirs capacity... so I went ahead and filled it to the 'F'.. we'll see if that does anything.. or if it's indicative of a leak somewhere :(

about the pressure being released.. I took the cap of when the car had been off for about 2 hours, as I turned it I heard like a "ZUUUP" but it was like 1 second and thats it.. not a "HISSSS".. ill try tonight after a drive.

Check your fan fuse. If its blown, one or both of your fans are junk. Good luck with the repair... i just got done with mine.

I'd think twice about removing the radiator cap when the car is hot. The sudden loss of pressure can cause the coolant to flash-boil and spray out with force. Not a pleasant experience. Yes, you can try to do it partially and slowly but it's still risky. In this case, "being careful" means not undoing the cap. There are other ways to check the pressure that don't involve blindness or losing the skin off your arms! -- imho.

thats why I will put a piece of cloth over it.

Its the quickest way to tell if its actually holding pressure - without the tools :lol2: :lol2:

Just letting the car idle in ~85 degree weather it went up to 215f until I shut it off.. I'm sure it would just have gotten hotter and hotter.

I also noticed that the fans do NOT stay on when the car is over 210+.. the fans just shut off about 5 seconds after I pull the key out.

I'm thinking there is definitely a problem with my fans.. would explain why the fuse blew twice last week.. both resulting in overheats... and now the car runs hot.

Planning on taking it to Wayne Mazda Monday or Tuesday.. hopefully it's an easy fix and its just a crapped fan or something. :(

Manhattan Mazda deny my Coolant overflow bottle's Warranty claim, cuz he said he cant send the part back to Mazda like "this", my ass, the bottle broke on its own, and he said this is not "Manufacture defect", yeah ok, no one else had a problem like mine, I am special or something?

I ordered a new bottle from Paul and its coming in today. Im planning to take the broken Bottle out to let other dealership to *see* it. Maybe we can meet up ?

Im seeing a lot of 100+ Celsius water temp as well.

Ever since I decided to swap coolant About 2 months ago. :(

Im gonna try to bleed it tomorrow. gay :(

In 80f weather the hottest it has gotten without the A/C is 220 and with the A/C 235... and this is in stop and go traffic for miles. It's usually 215 or so.

The car is at 180-190f when cruising on the highway.

I don't know if this is normal or not since this is my first summer with the car.. perhaps it is?

So my first day off that I have had to work on my car intensely..

I took off the battery box and the lower intake assembly to reveal the fans..

low and behold a freaking RUBBER GROMMET was all up in the right fans fins.. the fan was stuck stiff. The grommet was wedged in there pretty tight.. finally got it out though. However it seems that the fan is irreparable.. no doubt to the rubber grommet straining it. It's very jerky/stiff to move by hand compared to the other fan that spins at will.. So to the dealer tomorrow morning to get my radiator fans replaced..

So that is that :)
