Exclamation EBC Slotted Rotors and Brake Pads Questions

Ok... this is going to be a ignorant question that I think I know the answer to, but I want to make sure before I do the install.

I ordered the EBC Slotted Rotors and EBC Red Brake Pads. I wasn't paying attention and went to take pictures of the rotors and brakes. Well while putting the rotors back in the box I noticed the numbers on the outside of the box.

The back rotors are the 7172's and the front are 7171. But they seem to have a L and R on the label. Did I just screw up something or are both L and R the same size for the back and front?

Also as you can see in the second picture of rotors and pads, one brake pad has a medal clip at the end. Is there suppose to be another one with a medal clip, or does our car have 1 medal clip on the rear brakes?

Thanks for the help and excuse my ignorance on the matter.... I'm just being cautious before I do the install.

I'm confused even more now. Does that mean yes? Did I just mess it up? Both front rotors look exactly the same and that goes for the back too....

I would guess that the grooves and/or vents are curved, so you have a left hand and right hand disc so that they pump air correctly.

One thing I did notice, say you look at the top rotors in the above picture (front rotors) and you just stood them both straight up, the left one has the slots going towards the front of the car but pointing towards the middle of the rotors as well.

Yes, the slots are mirrored if you look (they spiral in opposite directions), so it's Left and Right to make sure you get them the right way around.

This should help you

You are here: Home > Tech Tips > Direction of Rotation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Direction of Rotation
For optimal performance follow these instructions:

DIRECTION OF ROTATION
EBC Slotted Rotors and Brake Pads Questions-direction_of_rotation_web.jpg
- Ready to install. Final precision grinding and balance are done at factory.
- Clean friction surfaces with brake cleaner.
- Torque lug nuts to O.E. specifications. Never over torque.
- Follow break-in procedures if new pads are installed.

Note: The above direction of rotation is to show the surface slotting and/or drilling direction of straight vane rotors.

If the rotors have curved (directional) vanes, the cooling vanes were made in opposite direction to these slottings for optimum performance as illustrated below:

Just so everyone knows, I contacted EBC USA and this is what they confirmed is the correct way for the rotors to rotate.

Isn't it obvious ? seriously.

Just look at the swirl and you will know which way it should go.

It's ok, but if EBC USA got this info from EBC UK, than it's complitely wrong, because in UK is the passanger side on the left and the drivers side on the right.

Has anybody pictures, where this brakerotors are installed on a lefthanddrive RX8?

I installed this rotors with yellowstuff pads (front & rear). I must say, they are perfect together.

The direction of the rotors on the pic is correct!
