Wish I had a 1/4 mile track to run it down, should easily knock off 13s

If you could launch an Rx-8 to run 13s in your trim I would be very impressed.

still waiting on a response ... :banghead:

olddragger 08-29-2007 05:01 PM

I will bet on Team here--any takers? The rx8 can be a high 13 car. No doubt.

there should be a prize for the first person (with timeslip) to do a sub 14s 1/4 in an N/A 8 without nitrous .

TeamRX8 09-04-2007 02:56 PM

I'm having a hard enough time just producing a dyno sheet, let alone a time slip :hahano:

Cobb Tuning has been more than generous though, I'm not really in a posiiton to make demands or hassle them over it :dunno: :(

'05 GT 6-spd, 46000 km, recalls and flashes current, RB REVi (no duct), but otherwise stock engine, 245/40R18's.

Mustang Dyno, ambient temp around 15 Celcius, correction factor would have been 0.977

(sorry, cell phone pic)

It was a 30 minute drive to the shop. After a warm up run in 3rd, we did two pulls in 4th, one in 5th, and a last one in 4th.

The last pull was the best:

Here's the second best 4th gear pull and the 5th gear pull overlayed:

These are uncorrected data, and will be my baseline. Any comments? They were done at Tapp Auto in Ottawa. Good place.

shaunv74 09-12-2007 08:02 PM

Curious why you didn't run it all the way to 9K rpm? It looked like you were still making power. Probably due to the REVi.

Yeah, I was curious too. In 5th the fellow just didn't take it all the way, but for the runs in 4th he purposely stopped at ~8.5. I didn't think much of it at the time (oops) since I saw a few other graphs here that ended at 8.5. oh well, next time.

most of the time its because 9k on the tach is actually only about 8,600 rpms

Vasichko 09-28-2007 12:54 PM

So my dyno was run in 4th gear and I put down a whopping 174whp corrected.

Anyone have a guess as to what that would be in 5th?

Kinda embarrassing numbers....

Ditto 5th gear.

1) check and clean air filter and spark plugs if you can.
2)Check your oil and coolant levels so you don't have any overheating problems
3) do a baseline without resetting your computer first then reset your computer so you can measure the effect.
4)put in 93 octane gas
5)dyno in 5th gear
6)make sure the car is up to operating temp before putting it on the dyno
7)when you start up press and hold down the DSC button for 7-8 seconds before driving it on the dyno so you disengage the DSC and traction control. You'll know because the "slippery when wet" light comes on and stays on.
8)Do all your pulls on the rollers without driving off again so you reduce the variation due to positioning the car
9) Make sure you get the data on CD so you can take it home and manipulate it. I would take your readings in uncorrected numbers and then play with the correction factors later. Uncorrected is what your car actually made in the environment it's in. Corrected performs a calculation based on environmental differences from a "standard day" to try and normalize the number. Good for comparisions across different sessions but still a calculation and not real data.

10) Is there anything you want to try and compare? Like the stock airbox to your REVi? If it's easy to swap you can take it with you and swap it in between runs to see if there's a difference. etc.

mysql101 09-28-2007 01:01 PM

when my car was dynoed, we did a few in 5th, then the rest in 3rd. I don't recall the gear change mattering

Don't worry about the actual number. Use it as a baseline for seeing what your mods do. I'd post up your chart (with RPM on X-axis) and just make sure the curves match. That will tell you if you're engines operating as it should.

So I took the car down to the guys at Sublime here in Omaha. Had them raise up the car about 3/4" in the back & 1/2" up front. Adjusted the settings on the coilovers, so the car doesn't bounce down the road down. I'm not sure why you would want it on "hard" but Im glad its not there anymore. Then they threw the car on the dyno. I am impressed to say the least.

Car w/ midpipe: 198.2whp & 133.4wtq (loud, but leaned it out)

Car w/ stock cat: 193.0whp & 133.0wtq ( so quiet once again!)

I guess for just shits & giggles & maybe to go deaf, they ran the car w/ no exhaust & got 202whp... ha. Thats funny. When Im not lazy I'll go ahead and upload the graphs..

shaunv74 10-29-2007 10:22 PM

nice comparo. Thanks for sharing. When you say you had the car raised up did they re-corner balance it for you? That's one of the big benefits of coilovers is the ability to corner balance your car.

No, I didn't have them corner balance the car. Going to wait till next spring cause there will be some more changes & car wont be driven but maybe on or two more times due to winter coming in.

SlayerRX8 10-30-2007 08:29 PM

I missed this thread but it makes me feel good about my numbers. :D

Here are the sheets from Sublime:

Red Dot Means: W/ Midpipe
Blue Dot Means: W/ Stock Cat

I decided to do a baseline dyno run before installing my turbo kit this winter. I have the MazdaSpeed CAI, RX8Store Highflow Cat, and a TurboXS Catback exhaust. We did 3 pulls but had problems with the RPM pickup on the 1st and 3rd pull. I am still running the OEM coils and they have 22700 miles on them. I am pretty sure the dip at 7500 rpm is because my coils need replaced. Hoepfully someone will release some upgraded coils before spring...

Maybe there is a reason they have not sent it to you. Whatever may be that reason, I am convinced that is the way for me to go also, (until I feel the need to go FI that is...). Come on Cobb, let's see the proof in the pudding.

Maybe the Cobb flash is close the original Mazda flash prior to the first sale of the car.

TeamRX8 11-27-2007 02:10 PM

reason = a million other priorities to worry about

It was run on their dyno located at the Miller Motorsports Park racing complex, not on their shop dyno. They have to make a special trip out there to get the graph/info.

Nemesis8 11-27-2007 08:16 PM

It's all good - your results are impressive to say the least.
