Dyno

I am taking my car in tomorrow to the dyno shop in san diego. i have never had any car dynoed before, is there anything I need to know before i go? i dont want to look like an idiot.. what gear do they do the dyno runs in?

I am going with my friend who just bought a 92 plymouth laser turbo.. i hope my car puts down more power than his! his car only has a 3 inch exhaust..

oh and its a dynojet and it costs 90$ for only 2 runs.

nooo nooo nothing like that! I'm just curious to see how much hp my car is putting to the wheels and i figured some of you guys might be curious as well so we could compare since my car is completely stock with 30k miles... no braggging! well maybe between my friend with the laser, but thats it.. and he has a s/c celica GTS putting down over 220 to the wheels, so I wont have much to brag about no matter how much HP i have.

oh well, ill tell everyone how it goes.

One more quick question. How much do the stock 18s weigh? Do they play a small role in our cars not putting down as much HP as one would think they should?

thanks!

Do you have Traction Control? Before you dyno, push and hold the DSC OFF button....hold it for 10 seconds - or until you see a little yellow warning symbol in the center of the Tach area.

be prepared to be disappointed.....

odds are you're going to get ~180HP at the wheels....like everyone else who has done a dyno test.

I dont think I will get dissapointed.. I dont really care how much it puts down, unless its way less than the average.. this is the fastest car I have owned, and I am happy with it.

Ideal is do the runs in the gear closest to a 1:1 ratio - or 5th gear for our cars. Here are some pics and vids from a dyno day a few of us did last year. May give you a good idea of the kinds of things to expect.
