Drilling floor over frame rails?

Excuse my ignorance. Don't have a factory manual. Search yielded nil.

I want to use self tapping screws thru the floor in the area of the frame rails to mount polished aluminum floor plate for racing and appearance so the screw ends don't stick out thru the floor.

Are there any wires/tubes/etc inside there? The online pictures are too small to see anything.

Thanks.

ANSWERED BY A BODYMAN. No problem as nothing is inside the frame rails. I drilled into driver's side floor to hold down my plate aluminum flooring/mats and no issues.

You can download the manual from here
http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/pdf/...004_owners.pdf

All new owners should know where to find the Mazda Work Shop manual online

This is far superior to replacing the expensive molded carpet front to back!!

Looks great too. Cost me $103/pair delivered UPS (using discount) for front cut to fit pair from

http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/f...hicle_list.htm

and included a free Mazda logo cut thru them too if desired. They are about 1/16" thick checker plate and strong but bendable if enough force is applied. They fit my 2004 both sides perfectly and are prebent on the front to fit under pedals. Do not use the floor mat hook hole on Driver's side as it will hold the plate up in the air and it will not lie flat.

I used 4 self tapping #10 chrome bolts to hold it firmly in place so I can use them for autocrossing. I use the original floor mat on top of them for normal driving to cushion my heel.
