Doing plugs & coils.. with a question
I am going to be replacing my plugs and coils tomorrow. I dont have the wires yet and am wondering whether or not its a big deal if i replace the wires a week after i do the plugs & coils. I dont realy want to wait long to do the plugs & coils because i am having a lot of random misfires and i dont want to blow another cat.
i think a week would be ok. just make sure you do replace them
You don't need to replace your wires unless it shows a sign of wear (corrosion) or it has reach like 60K miles.
Im at 87,000
also, which which wires should i get?
Stock OEM wires are excellent.
another question on this... could it be something just as simple as changing the air filter. Because one of the causes for the misfire could be a bad air/fuel ratio.
How long since you changed the air filter?
Filter has to be pretty grungy to cause problems by itself, but it can contribute sooner if other stuff is off. Ken |
i havent changed it yet. i bought the car at 30,000 miles and am now at 87,000
Just change it anyway(air filter).
Buy some MAF cleaner and clean that too! Make an afternoon out of the whole thing. Oh and not a big deal on the wires to do a week later, and to tell the truth, if in good shape they aren't really required to change, but what the hell. |
bought it at 30 and now 87K air filter never been changed ? ...
*Sigh* now I know why so many used cars are in garbage condition. |
well i changed out the coils and plugs... but on the last coil when i was putting the nut back on, the bolt snapped. So im guessing the only fix is to drill the bolt out and replace it. Am I correct?
err, the bolt on the bracket snap ?
I think the only thing u can do is buy a new bracket dude. correct me if wrong. |
Thats why I'm asking. Can't I saw the bolt off at the base of that and then drill it out and replace that with an actual bolt?
Click on this link, you should ask to part this: {FS} OEM Coils, Wires, Baseplate.
thanks grace for the heads up... but it was sold by the time i got to it
The bracket is $25 from Mazda, part number N3H118105.
Alternately yes you can just drill it out and fit an adequate replacement. I've broken the same bolt before.. those studs are really cheap (quality). |
Good to know, thanks for future reference.
erk ! how u guys even broke that thing ... u guys must love to over-torque stuff
The bolt just sheared with no pressure. the nut was only halfway to where it needed to be and was still gliding rather smoothly.
