Does your RX-8 have a burning smell.

I have noticed when I get out of my RX-8 that there is a smell similar to oil coming from the exhaust. I also noticed a large concentration of a soot like residue on my exhaust.

Is this normal? I have just passed the 600 mile mark and was wondering. Any help will be appreciated.
