Does a Non Navi car have Navi wiring?

I have an 04 GT 6speed RX-8 without navigation, but I have a complete navi system from a parts car. I noticed when removing the Navigation system there is a harness that the dvd player connects to. Do I need to remove this whole harness to install the Nav system onto my car?

The harness is HUGE and is a pain in the ***, goes under the dash, under the center armrest column, under the carpet, etc...

Or do all the RX-8s already come prewired from the factory like the older RX-7s did?

navi connects to wheel sensors and other stuff. It does this so that if the GPS signal is lost, it can still guestimate where the car is based on wheel movement.

It is generally not worthwhile to retrofit a car with the OEM navi, partly due to the excessive cost and labor, and partly because the OEM navi is not as advanced as the $99 GPS handhelds.

I have an 04 sport that came with the Bose system, when I was doing some electrical wiring in the rear middle console I saw an unfamiliar box that my buddy said could possibly be part of a nav system (if my car had come with nav). I don't think that answers your question, but it might help if you already know what all of the equipment looks like and then you can see if your car has that box too. I think it said BOSCH on it.

My guess is that the wheel sensors would be the same ones used for the ABS. It would probably be cheaper for Mazda to use a single wiring harness design, as they are already having to contend with different versions for different regions, so why make it worse by having different harnesses for different models?

its different
and it required you to take lots of **** apart.

only good thing about stock nav is that its intergrated nicely into the dash. its function is below average. not to mention there is no more map update i think.

if u want in dash stuff. get a metra kit and paint the thing urself.

or just like others suggested. get tom tom or garmin

it does not have the wiring.

i read a thread where the OP spent about $3000 to retrofit the factory nav into this rx8.

what a waste.

Thanks guys that is exactly what I needed to hear.

The only reason I was going to do it was because I bought a parts car that had the complete NAV system and I was going to swap it into mine. But I knew it was a crappy system, and not worth the time to swap it in. This is what I needed to hear to completely decide to not do it.

I already have Navigation on my phone so I don't need it anyways, but since I have it I will just sell the parts off.
