Buggered if I know. You should ask an American. Someone who has a good technical knowledge of RX-8's. Maybe one of the senior guys here on the forum.
There is an Admin on here somewhere who knows a fair bit of stuff.....

Maybe we should start by explaining what DRL's are.
They are the bloody lights that have been on in the middle of the day on Volvo station wagons for centuries.....you know, the lights that made you point at Volvo's when you were a kid and say "Dad, what sort of tool has his lights on in the middle of the day??"

the kind of tool that wants to be seen better and easier on the road, hopefully helping keep all the other idiots on the road from running into you during certain lighting conditions

Well there you go.
So....as all new cars in Canada have DRL, an RX-8 with them would blend in with the riff-raff and not attract any extra attention from Officer Dibbles!!
Here in Australia, DRL have been mandatory on new motorcycles for the last five years or so. Some motorcyclists are strongly opposed to them as they feel that they cause them to blend in with the sun when its behind them.

Yellow.....ick!
The way DRLs work is they put both the halogen hi-beams in SERIES, so they only get 6 volts each, and don't shine, just "glow". A weak, dull, flaccid YELLOW glow!
Ugly!

yeah the airforce has done some testing with using lights on planes to make them blend in better with the sky. ill see if i can find an article and you can give it to those disgruntled motorcyclers..
so isnt it strange then that they didnt include DRL for the US market. would have been simpler you would think. its just a relay and a couple of other bits.

scroll down until just before the explanation of operation Yahootie(i did NOT make that up)
so yeah its quit epossible to make the 8s blend in by giving them the same DRLs that the lowlier cars have

In response, a string of bright lights was placed on the wings and propeller hubs of the sub-hunter planes. The bomber crews adjusted the lights to match the natural background light behind the aircraft, masking it against the sky.
The principle is called isoluminosity, the perception that different objects displaying the same brightness seem indistinguishable from each other.

Other cars use the series high beams to keep the lights a bit more friendly but idiots drive around like that at night!
A few cars have dedicated DRLs that are basically bright amber front markers and I have yet to see anyone using those at night.

Just to clarify. Canadian RX-8s have DRL's that illuminate the halogen high beams at 6V. No other lights on the car operate as DRL's??

Cracked drivers side fog light "fixed" with a piece of clear packaging tape. (waiting to find a replacement...)

Glove box.....
Drop the glove box (don't break the little delicate damper) it's on the left against the console.
There are plenty of other things in there, it's got two connectors, a big one and a small, both have 8 wires coming out. Have fun.....

anyone know how to turn the DRL on?
One of the reason Americans don't have to have DRL's on is because it of course uses more energy from the car with translates to more gas, which of course would mean gas prices would climb etc etc.....
