Coolant Overflow Hose Fries Cooling Fan
2 Attachment(s)
Be sure to re-plumb your coolant overflow hose to extend below your cooling fan motor and connectors. Mine was way too short!
It seems mine overflowed and toasted one of my cooling fans. I tried everything to get her to start, but alas she gave up the ghost it seems. You can see the green remnants of the coolant. This must of caused a locked rotor amp draw or similar, because it blew the 40A fuse. Jumpered the relays, wiggled and cleaned the connectors, no go it seems. I'll need to test the motor once I get it out of the engine bay.... |
i have a few replacements if you need.
my solution was a universal AST mounted next to the ECU box and plumbed into the subframe |
Interested. Is there a difference in the two motors? I need the passenger side one.

WOW - very crazy.
How's things otherwise, bro? |

In looking at the service manual, it says I need to remove the radiator with the cooling fans all together as one unit. What? Why can I not just get to them from the top?
|
because the fan mounts are "stuck" on the radiator
you dont really have to take the radiator off, but you DO need to loose it a bit. which is almost same shit lol take the fan mount out, the motor is secured by 3 screws. after that, put it back in the way it was. probably takes about an hour or 2. I dont think the coolant killed it tho, consider the motor itself is sealed. probably just got old and died. |
Not a lot of room on the top...and you have to remove a lot more crap that way...from the bottom it's easier. Not sure if you could do one motor from the top??
|
everything there is supposed to be waterproof, if your coolant didn't short it a drive in the rain would have ...
this reminds me of the "pre-mix is the evil cause of fuel pump failure" thread otherwise, sorry for your trouble |
:lol2:
Yes, it is a sealed motor that should be waterproof. |

|
anyome kno the cmf or rpm of the stock fans ?
|
was it like 1800 or 1250 cfm or something. I forgot.
MM should know. |
I know the fan and connector are supposed to be waterproof, but are they designed to resist steam and boiling coolant? Resisting rain is no big deal.

I think my problem was a combination of all of the above. Extremely high ambients, boiling coolant, overflow hose location, etc etc.
