Confused dealership

I took my car in to the dealership today for an oil change and to have them look at a few other things while it is there. One of the things was squeaky brakes, and I took a copy of the TSB up there with me. I handed it to my service advisor, and he looked at it like I had just handed him something written in Russian. Then a mechanic walks by and asks what he is looking at, and the advisor can't really give him an answer. Then he tells me that he has to clear it with his manager, whose office in next door in a glass office so I can see. The manager looks at it the same way the advisor did. He had told me over the phone that the squeaking was normal and that it was caused by the metallic brakes rubbing against the rotors, so it's a good thing I took it upon myself to find out. As I was leaving, I asked his opinion on a couple other things I had read on here. I asked him about revving the engine close to redline periodically to clean out the carbon buildup. He said the most that I needed to do was do 65 in 3rd gear. He said he did not recommend ever redlining it. Then I asked him about bedding in the brakes, and he didn't even know what I was talking about. When I explained what I knew about it, he told me not to do it at all. He said it would damage my pads if anything. Is this typical behavior/advice from a service center, or should I be worrying what kind of hands my 8 is in?

all of you are forgetting something...service writers don't know anything about anything. they are just there to take in your information, write down your complaint, and make repair orders. you ask 'em all these technical questions, they'll just throw you some complete BS. service writers are the same as car sales men, they only know what they have read. everything else is BS. next time, ask a service writer what a roitery girder belt is...they might actually try to give you an answer.

Worry.... then run to another dealer. And most of the service writers I came upon do know some things actually - but usually are not aware of the TSBs, esp. for the RX-8, as probably they don't service too many for a particular issue. Or not be upfront about some of the issues even if they know them (covering for Mazda, probably).
By now, all large Mazda dealerships should know of the brake TSB as many people replaced those...

Well, they took a look at my brakes. The technician test driving it couldn't reproduce the squeaking. I said fine, and when I called back to find out if it was finished with the oil change, they told me they had replaced the pads. I asked why and they said the tech had taken it out again, and still really didn't find anything, but that since it was still in the "adjustment" period, they could go ahead and replace them. I stopped by the parts department on the way out, and saw some nice gun metal MS rims, but damn....599.00 per rim. I'll keep mine for now.
