Coils question
So I took out one of my coils to see how they were doing and this is what they looked like.
Do you think its time to change them out or can I tough it out for a bit longer. Also, the metal plate that the coils sit on was very rusty (damn Canadian winters...) so can I swap that out too or should I clean it up a bit? Sorry no pics of the rust.

the white spots on the coils are never an accurate way to determine the health of the coil.
the only real way is to use the diagnostic method outlined by mazda. (you'll need a multi-meter)
how long have you had the coils?

original coils on an '05?
I'd definitely encourage you to consider changing all 4.

if you have over 20K on the coils then just change it. Buy from Advance Auto Parts. Lifetime warranty.

Did I mention that I'm in Canada and my local Mazda stealership charges $130 PER COIL? It would be cheaper to order the BHR system...It's been on my list for awhile. Thanks for the tips guys.
Any advice on the metal plate the coils sit on? Is that removeable/changeable? It looks like sh*t...

dale: given the price of OEM coils, I say jump on a set of BHR coils and call it a day.
as for the plate: just polish the hell out of it, should look good as new

I just got my BHR kit in the mail today, hopefully I'll be installing it tomorrow. Yeah $130 per coil is pretty ridiculous...! I'd say go BHR or else find some at a decent price online and get em shipped. Change em out though for sure, better safe than sorry.

Pictures of a "(severely) white spot printed coil", opened with saw and hammer by a German fellow to look how the inside shows.............the inner synthetic material is partly heavily charred with ditto smell........
