Checking CEL

Is there any way you can check what a CEL means without an OBD computer? I remember in my Celica there was a wire trick and you could see how many times the CEL blinked and then work out the code from there. I have a CEL which comes on then goes off sometimes. Have a feeling it might be my midpipe but just want to be sure.

Thanks,

Waz

Not that I have heard of but there could be something like that because the 2nd gen RX-7 had that capability. Did you remove the O2 sensor when you installed the midpipe? Could be that unless you installed some sort of fooler. Could be something as simple as a loose or non-sealing gas cap. Are you sure this is the CEL and not something like a TPMS light? When does it light? If it blinks momentarily when you run up the revs it may be a random misfire. You will likely have to read the code(s) with an OBDII, CANbus-compatible scanner.
