Check engine light P0420

Well I got the CEL light on today while on the freeway so i got a code reader and it say my catalytic converter is bad.
Does it mean my catalytic converter is bad or the PCU needs to be reflashed.

Also if my Catalytic converter is bad will they still cover it under warrenty if i have a greddy exhaust on.

Thanks

They have to, and they cannot deny Warranty on CAT, its Federal required

Exhaust has nothing to do with CAT.

Thanks For the reply I am going to take the car in tomorrow and have them replace the CAT.
My dad said the same thing and that it should not be a problem because there is a recall on the CAT anyway.

Thanks

you can do anything you want to the car's exhaust from the CAT back.

however you may find that you hit some road debris and damaged the cat, or just broke/cooked a sensor.

Thanks Aseras
Also I have the opportunity to get a stock Exhaust but it from a Automatic RX8 but mine is a 6speed. Would the Automatic RX8 stock Exhaust fit a 6speed RX8.

Thanks

I Took my car to Mazda today and they said it was a bad spark plug fix everything and got it back by the end of the day. They were very nice and helpful
As soon as I took it in the service guy noticed that the car was missing.

My new question is now would that cause it to trow a code of P0420 or should i be worried that the check engine light will come back on.

Also the car runs great now
