i have had three occasions now of my check engine light coming on, two of which have also come with the oil light flashing on as well. already had the oil pan replacement done on the first flash. the dealer told me when they were updating the program this time i was down a quart and a half of oil. i have read about the ce light coming on in other posts but are any of you having the oil problems i seem to be having or am i alone on this one?

 

Hi, I'm guessing that it is warm outside and you are highway driving when the oil level light comes on. I think the check engine light is independent of oil level unless the engine is getting too hot and the on-board diags think the thermostat is stuck. Hot 5W20 oil foams easily and if the level is also a little low the sender thinks the oil is even lower The sender/pan mod should stop normal oil temperatures from giving a false low light during cornering but can still be fooled by really hot oil as the sender uses the oil as a heat sink to get a level reading. I'd be interested what codes the dealer pulls for the check engine light.

 

Hey guys, im quite new to this site. Just bhought my RX8 last week, and i took it on highway for a long drive with speed upto 170 km/h. At first it showed oil light, which after a while turned off again, but than after some time CEL came on and stayed on until today.
I was worried and took it to Mazda dealers and the did some checkups and told me that there was something wrong with the catalysator/converter as they said. (which is damn expensive to buy!!!) they also told that you should change spark plugs.
But when i started the engine after this the CEL was off. But im still worried about this, so my question is that whats the first right thing to do? change spark plugs? cause buying a catalysator is veryyyy expansive and i dont think that it would be the first thing to do.
Please help me out guys!!
