I recently had the greddy sp2 exhaust installed on my car. Runs great, sounds great. The next morning the check engine light came on. I thought it had something to do with the way the new flow of air was being picked up by the computer. I un-hooked the battery, waited about 20 minutes, turned the car back on. Wa-la. Light went away, or so I thought. It has been about a week 1/2 and the light came back on this morning as soon as I started the car. Any suggestions other than take it to the dealer?

 

Find someone with a CAN-compatible OBDII scanner and read the DTC. Only way to be sure what is causing the error. You can purchase such a scanner for about $60 if you want to buy one.

Having said that, if your new exhaust system does not accommodate the OEM O2 sensors, that could be the problem.

 

did you get gas the day/night before the light turned on?

 

When I put my Greddy SP2 exhaust on, I got no CEL.

 

I put gas in it around 5:30pm yesterday. I started the car once or twice before this morning. The light came on this morning when I woke up and started it.

But in between the light going off after the battery and now I have filled it up like 3 times.

 

Possible loose gas cap. I the car still under warranty? If so, take it to the dealer. Cat back exaust should not cause a CEL.

 

Hmm.. yeah I called the dealer and they are "booked" until Wed the 28th. The car seems to be running fine I am just paranoid driving it with a CEL on. Call me a wuss. I am taking it in the morning of the 28th, or if I can find someone around town with that can compad reader.... I went to 2 different autozones and I got link errors. They couldn't even read it.

 

As long as the light is not blinking and there is no driveability problems, you should be ok.
