Check Engine Light

Well I just made an appointment to have my car looked at on Friday. I was wondering if anyone might have some suggestions of what might have caused it. It came on on my way home from work. The car is running fine, no sputtering or bad acceleration. I got gas a day ago I checked to see if possibly the gas cap is loose. It wasn't. I checked oil and coolant, which are fine. Is there anything else I should check before I take it in?

Take it to Autozone or Advance Auto and have the code read, they do it for free. Then you'll know where to start.

I've thrown a gascap CEL by only clicking the cap a couple times, vs. my now habitual half dozen. Just have Autozone reset it for you and then go from there.

I'm going to run it up to Advance Auto. I'm hoping its possibly the gas cap. Does anyone know the code, if it is the gas cap?

Sorry forgot to add evap very small leak. So I'm guessing it's a bad gas cap. I had the code cleared. I'll be purchasing a new gas cap. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

I have an RX-8 and I bought it one and a half year ago, it has 47000 km and I have problem with my check engine light, it stays on all the time. I also found some white foam to the bottom of the engine oil, and when I switch on my car a white smoke comes out from the exhaust, can anybody help and explain to me what is happening??

Go to Autozone or similar and have the CEL code read. There are too many possibilities to 'net-guess.

There's a TSB for foam in oil. http://www.finishlineperformance.com...50-06-1664.pdf

White-bluish smoke is generally indicative of excessive burning oil.

It came on on my way home from work.
Code was p0456
So it came on when you started the car, not while you were on the road, right?

That's one of the "gas cap" codes. P0455 is also common. The cap does not have to be obviously loose, and may not have any visible defects.

If the gas cap was loose it take a few miles before the cell will go away.

Their scanner will show the code on it and they can tell you what it means.
