Check Engine ??

Hey everyone,
I thought I'd put this out there to see if any of you have had this problem. It seems that my check engine light is coming on nearly every time I've had to put gas in the RX-8. I've had the car tested twice and they assure me that nothing is wrong with it but having the code reset only to trip again in a few days is getting annoying. Is it just me or what? And before someone mentions it, yes I've checked the gas cap and everything seems normal. Any ideas?

without knowing the exact code we will not have a clue. The invoice should have mentioned the code. If not you will have to go back to the dealer.

it would be best to take your car back to the dealer.. have them check it.. this is to ensure what might be the problem...

Check Engine ??

Same here- CEL just popped up today. Have only 600 miles on it. Gas cap never seems tight, no matter how much I turn it...

Yeah, I just had mine replaced at the dealer (still under warranty), so we'll see how that works. So far so good, but it's only been a day.

most problems will not show there face on a new car sitting on the lot.you really need to wake the car up and put it in the mood like a real nice....then you find out how quick the beast raises her head.small problem but a pain in the behind.glad it came around!

Oh yeah, sorry I didn't clarify. It was the gas cap they replaced and we're still looking good.

New engine w 10k

My engine light is on for the last week or so. I take it to the dealership (thinking it was under new engine warrenty) how wrong was I. It will cost me $385.00 plus tax to get this problem fix. By the way, my car has been in the dealership over 80 times in the last 3 years or so. What a mess. Still like the car and would like to use it for my business to advertise the website.

I see this is a recall now for '06 and '07 rx-8s. but I have a 2004, and it's just a technical service bulletin. I'm out of warranty. what are the chances they will turn this into a recall for earlier cars too?

alternatively, how much does the new improved gas cap cost? I could only find the old one online

the new cap itself cost like what 20-30 bucks?

but if your car is still under warranty they can give you a new cap for free

cap is not a recall,

oh, I read this http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showt...hp?t=123657044 the guy said it was a recall, but it looks like a TSB actually.

I'm out of warranty, so I guess I'll just print out the TSB and take it to the dealer and see how much they want for the gas cap (I'll replace it myself but I gotta get the part)

Glad to see this post has been a help to others as well. I was able to pick up a new gas cap from my local dealer for like 20 bucks and haven't seen the problem since.
