CEL PO420 - Advice

Ok, so... my CEL came on the other day while driving in REAL bad weather. It was literally raining all day, I think we got like 5" of rain. Anyways, it's the first time my CEL has come on since getting a new Engine.

I have a 2004, 89K miles with < 10k on the new engine.

I went to autozone, had them pull the code, and it was the PO420. I searched for info here and now know that sometime in the near future I'm gunna be replacing my cat.

In the meantime, I've reset the computer and no CEL yet, so I'm going to monitor it.

But, I have a few questions:

1) If I decide to replace with a midpipe, does everyone still recommend the BHR?
2) If replaced with a midpipe, will the CEL always stay on, or is there a workaround to disable it or "fool it" ? I live in Indiana and work in Kentucky, and there are not any emission laws now to my knowledge.
3) If replacing with a midpipe, should I do the whole exhaust system?

Any advice is appreciated

Thanks!

2. the CEL will not always be on, the ecu is looking for a correlation between the front o2 sensor and the rear o2 sensor to judge the cats health, and some driving patterns are close enough to simulate that, or make it close enough the computer can't test. a long freeway drive will probably turn the light on.

3. there is no real need to do the rest of the exhaust, you can if you want to though. noise can be a problem, the cat does quiet the car a bit

^ Listen to this guy. He really helped me out when I was having issues with my car. Started with a 420 CEL, and quickly moved onto a blown cat and blown coils. Charles got my car back up and running in no time, was a major help.

I'd highly recommend looking into his BHR Ignition system - Best investment on the car I have made to date

From the New and Potential Owners thread:

- Mileage of last coil change
- - Has it ever had one or more coils fail on it with the current cat?
- Mileage of last plug change
- Mileage of last plug wire change
- Has it ever been flooded? (cat life remaining info)

I Did Research it!

okay on the same topic of the PO420 CEL. My CEL comes and goes to its hearts content but always with the PO420 code every time I go to AutoZone. Main Bank one full blah blah yall know that part. My question is how long will it last without me changing the cat? I just spent all the savings I had on tires and brakes and had an oil change. (just bought the car wanted fresh tires and oil for rotation/change schedule). Thanks for the input!
