CEL light

Well as a new owner as of last monday, I have fell in love with the car.. I pulled it off the lot with only 20miles on it..Sure enough they didnt prep the car right so it didnt have the right flash, cuz 2 days after I got it. IT threw a CEL light.. Grrrr. brand new and getting check engin lights.. Was not happy. but after I took it in and talked to the RX8 guy tellin me about the new flash calmed me down a bit.. So one week later. Driving home. on the freeway going out 74... light poped on again.. with around 1,000 miles now and this **** is not happing to me.. Taking the car in at 8am to see what went wrong now.. Oh and Im getting really really shitty gas millage. just looked before I came into type this and I have a lil more then 1/4 and I only have 220 miles.. I hope like eveyone and the guy at the dealer said give it 3-5k, and it should double.... well I'll be waiting...

Hmmm. 6000 miles in my case and basically zero problems. Sucks that you've had some, but keep the faith and all will resolve, I'm sure.

One thing to check: A lot of owners when this car first came out had CELs too. Turns out most of the time it was because the gas cap wasn't tight enough. Something to check, anyway.

Good luck, and keep us posted! Oh, and make sure you've gotten the "M" flash too... my mileage went from 15 city to 18 city overnight after I got this done.

I drove mine off the lot with 10 miles on it. Before 100 I had a CEL and had it reflashed. At about 1k miles another CEL this time for fouled sparkplugs. Now its in the shop at 3k for catalytic convertor replacement. Hopefully that will fix everything and I can enjoy my car some. Can't wait till friday to get here and get it back.

thats seems to be my problem took it in, had it rushed the guy put it to the tester and pulled up the converter.. he then went to the mazda website where all news things are posted. Turns out the flash was to get rid of that but it came up again. He cleared the codes in the PCM, and said if it comes on again I'll order you a new catalytic convertior.. So there lays the problem... So its now been off for 140miles.. if not just get a new cat.

I will have to make an Apt. with them about getting the AC ampifer switched out.. Iam having the issue thats on the TSB about cooling then warm and cool... No real big issues..

Come on now I love this car.. I want it to run good...

best thing for you is to drive that 150 miles back to the dealer and get it looked at.. if they didnt flash it before they turned it over.. then it might need a update or possible new parts..

The code for the loose gas cap will clear itself after a certain number of starts, not miles driven. I think it's something like 5 or 10 but I don't remember exactly. If it's indeed for an evap leak and the loose gas cap was the cause it will clear. If it's for something else, though, it's worth getting it looked at. So drive it around for a while more and if it stays on, go get it checked out.

drth's join date was almost a year ago, so I'd guess he's not subject to the new member restriction. And he searched...pretty old thread, but props for searching.

drth - seriousness depends on what's causing the light. Bad fuel cap is nothing, misfire has the potential of being catastrophic. You need to get the code read. I'm guessing there's not a lot of rotary support where you live, so buying a code reader of your own and downloading the shop manual would be worthwhile.

When you get the code read and come back with specific symptoms, folks here can give you some guidance.

Ken

how his search path led him here is beyond me

is it dangerous to drive with your check engine light on? it's called a check engine light for a reason.
