CEL after spinout?

well ill disclose my disgression... i have been turning off my DSC/tcs for the last several weeks while driving, i like that i can do a burn out and such..

anyways, i was pushing my car a little too hard and too fast on an onramp, and the back stepped out, and i over corrected left, and then the car snapped back in a 180 , so not im facing the wrong direction on a "thankfully deserted" onramp, after i got myself under control, i got off at the next offramp, and noticed that i had a solid CEL, i tried turning the car off and turning back on, still there, and then i took the car home, and let it cool off for a few hours and turned it back on CEL is still there...

il probably end up taking it into a dealer in the morning, to get is looked at, and to get the passenger seat looked at, and maybe replaced, and have a TSB or two taken care of. too many years of dealing with id10t lights on aircraft to think that if i reset the engine, it will go away, thats like seeing a problem but instead of fixing it, you just make it so you cant see it...

was just curious if the car logs a massive loss of traction in the computer, or if i need to be worried that something might be rotten in the state of denmark

Where in the warranty does it say you can lose your warranty for breaking traction...i'm sure you will be fine.

The warrenty doesn't cover abuse which I am sure is there "catch all."

I think I have heard this happening before. have you done a search? I don't remember the details.

Aseras if by EC you mean Crankshaft, you are the winner, i work weird hours, but it makes it easy for me to get my car to the dealer first thing in the mornings, he put the computer on, said what sensor it was, thought it was pretty bizzare cause he had never seen that code before, reset it and told me to call him if it happened again

If your car still has a rotary engine in it then you don't have a crankshaft.

why wouldnt it?

granted it would be the eccentric shaft, but seeing at how the error code system is probably universal to the mazda fleet, when 9 of your 10 vechiles usue standard piston engines, its not cost effective to make special codes, when the engin rom can be universal

they probabbly made the code for the crankshaft appear in the RX-8 for the eccentric shaft, they both accomplish the same job..

yes i agree entirely, dsc would have benefitted me GREATLY in that situation, but my statement holds true, because it really really screws up a launch if you dont turn it off...

i gotta be more aware of what position the system is in, and how im driving

there 2 different ways/levels to disable it, the firt and easiest wat is push the dsc off button, located on the left side of the steering wheel, the second way is to totally disable it, and thats accomplished by pressing and holding the button for about 5 seconds, that induces a fualt in teh system, and the yellow car will come on and stay on in your tach, that way wont reset untill you turn the car off

i had mine off from the second method

actually, your turning off 2 seperate systems with the button hold-in. Ones Direct Stability Control and the other is Traction Control, hence the 2 seperate indicators

hate to say it, if you can not handle the car you should turn it on, you could hurt someone.

My CEL came on a week and half ago (I thought it might've been my loose gas cap but it's still on so I figure it's more than that) and I called Galpin Mazda to check it out. The rep, who is usually very helpful and nice, let me know that it would cost me $120 for them to check it out (if they discover problems, I wouldn't have to pay for them to fix it if its covered by warranty).

Is this normal procedure? I'm not too worried about the cost but just want to make sure he's not trying to take advantage of the obvious fact that I don't know anything.

not normal bad dealer...

exactly who jerked your chain?

im well aware of my proficency as a driver.. and I WAS PUSHING TOO HARD, why do you think i chose to try out the limit of my car in an area where even after spinnign out, and coming to a complete stop, only one car drove past in 10 minutes?
ive been driving in vegas and new mexico for the last 4 years, and i drive to cali occasionally too, those 3 states are some of the highest accident per population rates, and vegas as a city is one of the worst, and ya know what? ive never been involved in an accident,
so unless you have something constructive to say, stay the **** outta my thread.

im guessing they charge 120 an hour for work there, and they feel that by hooking the reader up to the car that constitutes work, the dealers here have a blanket that anything that requires any time on the vechile they must charge a minumum of an hour.. as for them charging you an hour for 30 seconds of work, thats BS, if they refuse to help you without you paying, id say take it to autozone, or checker, (theres some place in cali thats a derivative of one of them but goes my a different name and it escapes me presently)

at those places they usually have a universal code reader, but ive heard on here that people dont always have luck with it connecting, but its worth a shot if they insist on charging you

calm down, i wasn't looking for proof of how well you drive, the statement was aimed more along of the lines of you could have banged up the car or even yourself.

and you dont think thats thought doesnt cross my mind everytime i get into my car, especially now?

your statement was obvious to the point of being inflamatory, i may have gotten a little angry but i dont like people bringing things to my attention that went throught my head about .002 seconds after coming to a full stop and realizing im still on the road, and not in the dirt, and its uncalled for,

this thread started as me asking if i should be concerned about a solid check engine light after i lost control of my vehlcle, not about whether my skill as a driver will get me hurt, or anything else, the answer was already provided, something made the crank(eccentric)shaft sensor go off, and it is nothing to be concerned about, and if i really wanted to i could have pulled my battery lead and reset it that way.

im well aware of the fact im lucky to not have suffered any damage to my car or myself, so enough with telling me things i already know

When my mom's MPV got a flashing CEL my dealership said it was something like $84 since her vehicle was out of warranty but then they didn't charge her for it anyway.
