TX Cataylatic converter

I was told by dealership that my rx8 needed a new cat conv which they say will cost me around $1600. I have tried to order one online, but have been unable to find one. Can anyone help me find a cat conv for my rx8 year 2004? I would prefer to purchase one and have it installed by muffler shop.

1st: I assume you are past the 80,000 mandated federal warranty on the cat?

2nd: The DIY forum is not where you find it. But since you are clearly looking for a DIY, I will submit the following for your consideration:

1 - Click into the RX-8 Parts for Sale / Wanted subforum
2 - Click "Search this subforum"
3 - Type "Cat" or "Catalytic converter"
4 - Click Go.

That's all the "help finding one" I can provide.

just find yourself a davesport cat which is a 100cel metallic cat, you prob will not pass emission though.

You will most likely need a flange of some sort to tap down the in and out of the cat and make ur pipe entrances abit longer and extended, which i am sure any competent exhaust shop can do.

Just make sure you get a proper cat, with our high EGTs most cats will burn out very fast

I am looking into this too, the dealership is trying to charge $1400 for a cat replacement. I have found a brand new cat for 2004-2008 for $295.... why is the labor so much or why such a huge price change?

That's not labor, the price of the unit is a lot new. I doubt you found one brand new for $295.00 unless it is a person selling it. Swapping this out on a lift takes 10 minutes tops.

I would suggest looking in the Parts for Sale/Wanted section, and making a thread there with the request if you don't find one for sale.

Trying to find one in the DIY subforum is the wrong location.

This is the receipt on when they purchased that CAT on the craigslist link below.. this looks like it will work just fine

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/pts/2009191163.html

This is the link to where she bought it at so it is selling for $308.52.. not much cheaper but $295 is still better.
