Castrol Syntec Blend

I did a search and found only one thread on Castrol Syntec Blend from way back in 2004 so i figured i ask this question again being that so much time has past. (owners come and gone)

I've been running Castrols 5-30 and want to go to there Syntec Blend. Who has run Syntec Blend, thought?

I know that most major brand name oils are reparable whether it be dino or synthetic. I know Mazda dealers use the Motorcraft synthetic blend from ford and their own mazda brand name oil, so this isn't a question on do's and don't. Just informative to me , I have a oil change coming up and want to make a leap into into Castrol Syntec Blend that all.

This is just a general question on thoughts or the Castrol product and not ment to start up another repeated thread on dino vs. synthetic oils.

Thanks in advance.

Im a Castrol guy. Easy to find in auto parts stores, and I think its a good motor oil. I have 53K on my 04 and used Castrol Blend for 50K of them (5w 20).

I just switched to Castrol Syntec 5w 40, but thats just cause I can get it free from work. All I have to buy is the filter.

Ive never had any motor issues. My cat conveter just died on me. I changed out my stock coils at 45K (bad misfire).

^ that's true. I just wanted to try something a little different in these summer months and take it from there. Well all know that rotary tend to run hot and i thought that maybe the syntec blend would help a little more with preventing breakdown ( which Castrol has always been known for). Just wanted to test some new waters that's all.

Syntec blend is not really true synthetic blend.

so you better off using GTX. saves u some money

or just use some "true" synthetic like mobil1, redline, or royal purple.

I've been using the GTX for some time now. I'm not sure at the moment to convert to a full synthetic oil. I was hoping the the syntec blend would be a good middle ground. BTW I got no complaints about the GTX- In my eyes GTX is great stuff. But could the Blend be better? Or is it really just a waist of money like you say?

to me, all synthetic blend is just a waste of money.

plus, all Castrol's Syntec(their so called Full Synthetic) line are all fakes except for 0w30 anyway.

again, if you want synthetic, get some real deal like mobil1, red line, royal purple, and eneos.

Not an RX8 but... I've used Castrol Syntec 5W-50 in my Toyota Previa minivan since it was new. 240,000 miles with no engine problems (doesn't even burn oil). I change my oil every 7,500 miles; just when the "change oil" light comes on. So even if it's not a real synthetic, it's pretty good oil for piston engines anyway.

Here's an update.

i have been running the 5-30 syntec for about 3 weeks now and will continue to do so in the future. No problems (not like there would be). The car is running like new as it has from day one.

For anyone thinking of going with the castrol brand whether dino or synthetic you'll be "Thinking with your Dipstick"

Love there products. been using for the last 10 and will continue to use for another 10.

If you are changing your oil every 3months/3000miles, just use GTX. Spending the extra money on a blend and then on quarts to top it off as it burns will just cost you more money with the same results. If anything, just switch to 5w40, 10w30 or 10w40 GTX.
