That is a HELLUVA deal for that scan tool. Not to mention if the A/F ratio data it can collect is accurate, that's an AWESOME deal for tuning the car with an E-manage. Saves from buying a wideband O2 sensor!

Not to mention you could have the E-manage software and the scan tool software running on a laptop - make a run, monitor the AF and other factors, then tab over and modify the E-manage map. That's some SERIOUS tuning power.

The only caveat with this device is that its logging rate is not constant - the time base will wander as the ECU spits stuff out.
that makes it a little tough to interpret the data from a run.

Canzoomer has compared it to his Lambdaboy and I am about to do the same against my LM-1 to see how the timing works out.

Is there an SDK for the e-manage? I havent seen one and that would be icing on the cake, to be able to have the e-manage running off a dynamically self tuning map from a computer.

I'm still trying to puzzle out how to keep the gas at a steady position just to be able to map all the stock stuff at different throttle levels since it's aparently changing based on engine load.

I'm a bit frustrated here. Not with the tool, but because I can't find the CD drive for my old laptop (which I was going to dedicate to this and the eManage). Can't just buy a USB CD drive for the old one either, as it doesn't have a USB port except on the docking station. I specifically got the serial model so I could use the old one. Guess I'll have to go get a USB to serial adaptor, and use my new laptop. :(

Anyone try running this on a mac with virtual PC. I have a 1 GHz powerbook and a desktop PC.

To all, I was consindering Auto-Enginuity's ScanTool. I had one of their guys defend their software against other competitors...and he sounded convincing. Only problem, it quite a bit more expensive than the Harrison R&D CANScan.

If anyone has any feedback, I'll appreciate it, as I am ignorant of good/better/best features.

For once, I know I want to be able to read back temperatures from the sensors, and be able to read back whatever codes the ECU may spit out.

Oh, one more question: the 8 doesn't have a WB 02 sensor, right? Therefore, trying to log A/F ratios will be futile. I would have to install one, correct?

Yes, I got it working. I bought a USB to parallel port adaptor and all is well.

The CanScan is a great tool. Costs a lot less than the AutoEnginuity scan tool, and does almost as much - if not more. I'd have to compare the 2 side by side to decide which one has more features. For me, the price was the determining factor.

And yes, the RX-8 has a wideband O2 sensor. :)

The Harrison R&D Web site says about the Palm interface:

"As a companion to the Harrison R&D OBDScan tool, nearly every function available on the OBDScan Windows program is available on the Palm software, plus a real time Gas Mileage calculation, for vehicles supporting this parameter."

I emailed Dan and he says the 8 does support the function but I can't see where the "real time Gas Mileage calculation" can be accesed on the palm App. Does anyone know for sure whether or not this feature is available on palm version 7.2?

Yep, the Palm software from Harrison does MPG. When you bring up the list of all available real time parameters (or graphing), MPG is the last one listed at the very bottom. It's fun to drive around (shifting, coasting, etc.) trying to keep the number max'd out. Stay safe! :cool:

What version of the tool and software do you have?

My Palm is at work so I can't say for sure right now. It IS the most recent version though, so it is 7.X. I've had several of these harrison units over the past two years and I keep the Palm software up to date with what is currently shipping.

The MPG capability has been in the product for a very long time though - since approximately V 2.0, I think.

I have the CanScan OBDII tool (Canzoomer Edition - I don't have CZ though) and Palm version 7.2. When you have a chance can you see what the menu prompt is? I'm obviously missing something.

My OBDScan hardware came directly from Harrison R&D.

On the main screen of the Palm OBDScan V7.X application I see two lists. An upper list of "static" ECU values and a lower list of selective real-time parameters. Using the Palm pointer, I can click on any of the displayed text strings in the lower list and a NEW window appears allowing me to select up to two parameters for real time "meter" display (large number font) or "graphing" display. That's the list that provides the MPG selection - but I still have to scroll down to the bottom to see it.

Allow me to bring back this thread: I got the Harrisons R&D CANScan interface. I am running their software on a PALM m515. I've been toying with it for now, since I am still to figure out a decent way to retrieve the OBD Palm Data Base file (.PDB) that is saved by the software and can be sync'd later on.

My problem is...well, just making any sense out of the file's content. Just for kicks, I've attached an example of the file output. To bring it back to its original extension, simply change it from .TXT to .PDB

The file looks fine in WordPad. Seems you looked at RPM, oxygen sensor, mmHg....
I guess you need to take the file in Excel to make some plots.

I have the harrison canscan and it works great.
