sorry folks, been kind of out of the loop these days in terms of the RX-8 current events. So are you guys saying that there a new ECU map out there now that Mazda can use to reflash the ECU to improve gas mileage ? (what about horsepower then ? ) Thanks for the updates guys.

Smoker,

The new "maps" or ecu image is to cure certain CE lights.

Nobody knows if the maps have changed to increase HP or increase MPG yet.

It is out there and available to the techs.

MikeB! How is the new ECU behaving in your car? Notice any difference?

I told mazda tech my friend from the formum got his done and they recalled him and said they would do mine so I waited about a half hour and now its done.

I havent filled tank yet but hp seems better, it might just be a psychological thing

thanks mikeb -- look forward to your results. If it does anything positive for mpg and/or hp, hold me back! 'cause I'll be beating the dealer's door down for a reflash too! Cheers, jd.

I had this re-flash done last week. My MPG hasn't changed significantly, still getting about 15.5 MPG. I had done some wishfull thinking in the West coast forum that maybe the MPG would improve after the re-flash. This is the first official re-flash available for the RX-8 and is Mazda's first chance for a "stealth" fix of the fuel map. The car does seem to have a little more zip but I have no hard evidance. Maybe someone who has access to a dyno can do before and after measurements.

We might have to wait a little longer to see the results of the MPG, because the ECU might be slowly learning. I'm no techie, so don't hold me to it. But its a possibility.

syntrix, thank you for the update.

So far we have a new oil pan, and a new ECU map from Mazda for the 8. Sounds encouraging, good to see they addressing those 1st year model models so promptly and not waiting till the next model.

Anything else ?

Thanks for ???????

We don't know if there are new maps. The programming is to cure certain CE lights as a symptom.

That could be all it fixes!
