Break in oil - when to change?
I recently got my Black 8 and now have about 500 miles on it. I wanted to know when I should be doing my first oil change. The dealer said that I should probably change at 1,500 or 2,000 miles because of the shavings that may accumulate in the oil from the rotary.
I was thinking of changing it at 1,000 and 2,000 to keep it fresh. Some buddies of mine have said that this is stupid to do as I need to keep my break in oil for at least 2k miles.
Does anyone know when I should be doing my first few oil changes? thanks!

My dealer did it for free at 1000 miles. I am planning to do my second one at 5k. In other words, just one early oil change then onto the standard 5k mile changes. The break-in period specified in the owner's manual is just 600 miles. Your oil is going to get dirty very quickly with the metal shavings and stuff from that break-in period, and you want to make sure you change it before the oil filter gets clogged with gunk and is bypassed. If you wait until 2k miles you probably will be fine, but given how tiny the oil filter is on the 8, I'd probably do it earlier than later just to be on the safe side. I think changing twice at 1k and 2k is probably unnecessary overkill.
Just don't use synthetic oil, it's not good for rotary engines.
