Braking rumbling/vibration

With 2000 miles on the clock, I am noticing a rumbling when I brake from freeway speeds -- sort of like a quiet version of Sensurround from the old disaster movies in the 1970's, where they amplified lower-than-audible frequencies so you coould feel the vibration. I haven't noticed this before, and I didn't notice it in another 8 I drove before I noticed it in mine. Has anyone else noticed this?

mine does that when it's in 6th and under 2k rpm...it could also be warped/cooked rotors. have you been on the brakes hard?

It really sounds like a warped front rotors. It is unusaul for you to have them at this early stage. Did you make an emergency stop latley from high speed, or perhaps you had defective ones to start with. I have 5000K on mine and so far the breaks have been great, but I warped so many rotors on my BMW, but usualy after at least 25K, and few panic stops. Good luck, hope you fix the problem soon

Thanks for the tips. No hard braking so far; I'll have the dealer check next time it's in. Hopefully, we can go out in a demonstrator (for comparison) which won't act the same way. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Could be many things, maybe something contacting where it shouldn't and causing a vibration (engine mount or exhaust?), maybe tire noise (are you on standard tires or winter tires? Are the pressures and wheel nut torques OK?), maybe rear axle. You just have to go through them and cross them off the list one-by-one.

Looking for final resolution on braking problem

I am having the same problem on my RX-8 that many other posters have had. Specifically, hard pull to both left and right at low speed when braking. I have researched the forum posts, but have yet to find anyone report back a fix, only that it is a common problem. Several of you had mentioned you were taking back to dealer to have it looked at. Were they able to solve the problem? Others have suggested it was related to DSC or tires. Can it be fixed?

it comes down to this- there is nothing to fix because nothing is broken. with the type of suspension coupled with wide tires when coming to a stop the tires pull based on the grooves in the road. people with heavely grooved roads feel more of a pull than people with smoother roads. it's annoying but so far no one has found a problem in the brakes or DSC that would account for it.

I noticed that today for the first time - I'm at 2,600. For a moment I thought I was having brake issues - I had just exited the Turnpike here in Fla. and was turning into a parking lot. I didn't notice it the rest of the day tho. Still got that clunk in the rear end tho whenever I put it into drive and roll forward. I was told it's the abs system check - just wondering if anyone else hears that clunk as well.

My car did something similar when I first got it. It really sucked. I noticed one of my rotors was scored. After driving it a few hudred miles, the problem stopped ...... I now have 5k miles. If I recall correctly, it was the left front rotor and the car pulled to the left when braking. I hope your problem gets resolved.

thanks for that laugh on the Audi.....it just sounds so low tech when it happens. Now I had a Lexus ES-300 which had an ABS system and that never happened. I having oh so much more fun with this car tho - it's worth the clunk - and the quirks
