brake piston (cylinder?) seal

i think that image sums it up pretty succinctly. i teased the seal out after 5 minutes. but i'd like to know what i can do so i dont fear ripping it when im retracting the brake piston in the future.

Grease? Really? I've never heard of anyone greasing rubber parts on brakes. Generally, the only thing used to clean or lube that kind of thing is brake fluid. Seals get lubed with brake fluid. If a boot does not slip on dry, use a few drops of brake fluid.

Speaking of boots - that part is a dust boot, not a seal. If it tends to do that when retracting the piston, retract it slowly and guide the boot along the way.

Yeah but we saw your pic that you tried to stick in the face of that girl in the other thread. People were like what the hell. Are you sure girls go for you?

DO NOT USE A PETROLEUM GREASE ON RUBBER! It wil swell the rubber and make it useless. Use a dielectric grease that is safe for rubber.

BTW, I think that is a dust shield and not a seal. If it was a seal, you would have brake fluid gushing out all over the place.
