There was a previous thread about rx-8's not having the doors lock automatically. actually you guys are wrong. i checked today, and after about 10-20 seconds, the doors locked automatically. i have the 06 BB sports package. im guessin maybe the 04's and the 05's dont have this option. just to let y'all know.

 

Do you mean after they had been unlocked and opened or after they had been unlocked, but NOT opened? If you use the remote to unlock the doors and then do not open them, they will automatically lock again after a timeout (I think 20-30 seconds, but I'm guessing).

Do you have the advanced keyless entry? If so, you can have that system set to autolock the doors as well.

It seems that the OP was asking for a way for the car door locks to automatically engage after he closed the car door (while the car was running). The stock RX8 does not do this.

The only time that I know of when the door locks will automatically engage is if you:
1. Hit the unlock button on the key fob
2. Refrain from opening the car door for about 30 seconds

I have an '04 GT package and it does automatically lock given the above conditions.

I don't know how the advanced keyless entry system works though.
