Question Apex Seals -Question-

Does the rx8 utilize the same apex seals as the rx7 did? Or can the rotor be altered so that they can use the same ones as the rx7?

The RX-8 apex seals are better. Why sould you want to use the ones from the RX-7?

theres aftermarket seals for the 7 that alow more boost. And that was the main limiting factor on the RX-7.. I'm in iraq at the moment and will have plenty ofmoney to blow an engine or two. So if the rx7 apex seals fit i plan on getting those and running about 20lbs of boost and seeing what happens... Oh yeah and just in case someone else asks as far as tranny n junk im sending that stuff off to Cali to get Cryo-treated.. But yeah so thats why i want to know if it ifts

Um the stock Rx7 apex seals can hold over 20 lbs of boost. They are really good actually. Plenty of drag racers run big boost and power on the stock seals.

The limiting factor on the rx7s was tuning and fuel. If you run it lean once and it detonates you need a new motor. That wasnt the apex seals fault. All apex seals did that. 3mm ones did hold up a little better but would still grenade when there was detonation.

If money is not going to be an object, there is someone that makes carbon seals for the 8 that will run you $1600 for the set I believe. If you search the forum that person's name has been talked about a couple times by Rotarygod on here I believe. This guy's (company's) seals are supposibly really nice and very strong.

Spend the money on the tuning, bot the seals. The stock 8 seals are better across the board than the RX7 seals.

We heard time and time again from the experts at 7stock about the quality of the stock seals. Spend the money on a good ECU and get the car dyno tuned. That will go much farther in protecting your engine. Even the ceramic "inetti" seals can't save you from bad tuning.

Carbon seals arent good for boost. Only high rpms. They are too soft and will break easily.

I think he meant ceramic but said carbon.

the carbon race seals are used becuase they don't chew up the housings at high rpm and have a self lubricating property due to the material. However, they only last 10-20K at most...not an issue with a race team.

You're right brillo, that is what I meant, ceramic.

I plan on running carbon seals in the 12a bridgeport that Im about to build. Should be good to 9000 rpm or so.
