Anybody knows what this black pin is?

Hi!

I found this beneath my RX-8, and I'm not sure if it fell from my car.

Does anybody here know what it is, or where does it go?

Thanks!!

Yes, your car has about 1 billion of them! It probably came from the wheel well. Go look around. If you pull the center out, then the prongs(if you will) can be pushed together as you insert into the hole(where it's missing) and then when you push the center in, the prongs are forced outwards to hold it in place.

It's pretty clean....you must have a new car!

Seriously, go look along the edges of the wheel wells and you will see what they look like when installed. Then you are gonna have to hunt for where it came from. There are literally about 100 all around this vehicle. Check along the lower front edge of the bumper as well. They are also in the trunk and various other places, but since you found it underneath the car look on the exterior where any plastic attaches to the metal on the side of the car where you found it laying.

OMG! The front rotor is retained by a plastic pin?

Don't know, but I have quite a few left over from various mods. No chance of shipping them to Oz though.

BTW the trick to these (especially if you have your 19 inch wheels still mounted, is to use a phillips head bit tip thingy from a multi head driver kit and hold the outer ring with your fingers and use the bit to loosen the screw a quarter turn...then pull straight out from the screw head part. Opposite for re-install.
I think they are like $5 for two from Mazda???

These are a generic part that all automakers use. You may not get the nice ones with the phillips head (some are just pried off) but for $5, you should be able to get a dozen of them from any auto parts store.

oh boy, finding the place where it fell from is quite the challenge...

one single missing pin probably doesn't matter, but it just bugs me knowing that somewhere on my car, there's a missing part!!! AAARGGH!!!

i laughed when i saw the picture..i had a feeling it would be a picture of the retainer clip/screw.

if you're missing a few of these and thinking of getting a revi air duct, or a cai, save your 5 bucks for a beer because you will have extras from taking out the plastic tray under the hood latch.
