Another Flood....

Well last night I went to put the 8 back into the garage and it stalled on me right after I put it into drive. I put it back in park and bam, no start; engine would crank but no go. I tried the various tips to get it started with no avail. So I called the dealer this morning and asked for them to come get it. He stated that there was a TSB out for the flooding issue and said if the car needed it, they would replace the battery, starter and plugs. He said at the minimum that the plugs would be replaced.
We bought this car used; it's a 04 but only had 10,169 miles on it. I received the dealer warranty work sheet before I bought the car and if I remember the starter and battery were already replaced, but I'm going from memory and I'm getting old. It seems that there was a ball joint issue, or a control arm issue, that I know was placed, but I can't remember seeing the starter and battery on there. I'll have to look when I get home, actually I'll probably hear from the dealer before then.
Just chalk up another one....

Service guy called me back and said they did a "Flooded engine procedure" and that was all. I asked him if the starter or battery was replaced and he said that if the car didn't already have it the mechanic would of replaced them. So now I'm pretty sure that the starter and battery was already replaced, but I'm going to check that sheet I got and see.
The service guy, Richard, was really nice and polite, something you don't find at every dealer.
So the wife picked up the car and was heading towards the mall at last conversation!

I thought you were gunna say "I would be less concerned about 'flooding' and more concerned with the fact you bought an automatic". Man, I've been warped by this forum! I own an automatic and I'm even prejudice against them now.

Djseto,

I don't think the "auto tranny stalled" as you so elegantly implied. I am going to give you the benefit of doubt and just assume you meant "since the engine stalled". As soon as I started it I put it into drive, the car was sitting at a steep angle at the back of the driveway, so I'm just chalking it up to that.

It still shouldn't have stalled.

I did do the "bad" thing about starting it, backing it down the driveway, and then shutting it off. I was working on my other car so I might have pre-flooded the engine to begin with. It has never done this before so I'll keep an eye/ear on it in the future. So when I went to move it back into the garage, about three hours later, it happened.
I have read several, several posts dealing with this issue. I talked with the service rep and he said that when they move the cars on the lot they rev the engine to about 3-4 grand for about 5 seconds and then shut down the engine and they have never flooded an engine yet. So I'll take his advice and do that if I need to move the car a short distance in the driveway again.
Thanks for all the post guy's I appreciate it.

Flooding is a big issue with all of the rotary engines. The dealership's method of making sure it doesn't occur probably would work but just to be safe I would take the car for a quick drive everytime I started it. Besides, I don't know about you but I love driving my RX and I try to take advantage of every chance I have to do so.

I still can't believe people do not pay heed to the warning of possibly flooding a rotary engine. Enjoy the flood
