Am I screwed or what?

Basically, I took off the cover of my engine bay and found this broken hose in my intake. It looks like it's a broken base or attachment. I'm not quite sure what it goes to and I didn't see anything in my manual. I cranked it up and it makes a whine similar to a super charger.

I'm posting a pic

And, for the record, I searched "broken intake hose" but to no avail. Please help guys.

im not 100% but i think that is a oil vapor vent hose. take to dealer and get it fixed.

BlueRenesis82 06-01-2007 10:50 PM

yep, its a vac line for something. take it to the dealer and free fix

TeamRX8 06-02-2007 03:52 AM

I had one break and bought several to have as spares, to get me by I bought a universal one at a parts store, they didn't have an elbow in the right size so I used a straight one until the OE parts arrived

you're engine may run lean so be careful driving it like that

Derex'8 06-02-2007 07:12 AM

^^^^ Ditto. broke one a while back & the next day I threw a CEL p0171 (System too Lean). Ended up just putting on a aftermarket CAI...

RojoOcho 06-02-2007 09:09 AM

Is it something I can do myself if I went to the parts store and did it? I wouldn't mind shelling out a little dough and doing it myself if the difficulty for this is minimal. Would I need any tools?

TeamRX8 06-02-2007 12:05 PM

ignore ^^^, but yes you can easily do it yourself if the part store has a universal part that will work. Pull one or both pieces out with needle nose pliers and take it with you

dannobre 06-02-2007 01:38 PM

Somethings amiss in RX8 Club data base Me thinks :)

Mazurfer 06-02-2007 01:46 PM

I think so also...............I can't even quote anything at the moment! Looks like the database is sticking replies where ever it wants to. This could get really bizzarre.

RojoOcho 06-03-2007 01:06 PM

If you all notice, the place where the hose is suppose to go into doesn't have a hole. It appears to be melted over... Or is it suppose to be like that?

Derex'8 06-03-2007 01:21 PM

Did you buy this car pre-owned or something???...LMAO sorry but it looks te be as if someone tried to glue it back on :spank:

Derex'8 06-03-2007 01:25 PM

But as suggested above get a hold of some needle nose pliers and break it loose.

RojoOcho 06-03-2007 01:41 PM

Yea, I bought it used with 28k from Carmax. So it seems like this could be done rather easy. Is there an exact name I should ask for this hose from a parts store?

Derex'8 06-03-2007 02:00 PM

:dunno: not sure on the name of it but its a plastic splicer...I would bring it in with you to parts store and they will square you away

Wilson 06-03-2007 04:20 PM

Charles. You may need to check your nitrous hoses for leaks. :jump:

RojoOcho 06-03-2007 10:58 PM

I went to the parts store and asked for a plastic T piece and they didn't know what I was talking about at all... even when I showed them (any surprises there?). Can anyone give me any more tips please before I go to the big D?

The piece that you are looking for is just a plastic elbow piece used for a car vacuum system. They should have those at autozone or whatever.

When you are asking for it, just say "vacuum hose 90 degree fitting made of plastic"

yeah, those auto parts guys are dumb.

I wouldnt drive the car too hard until you get that replaced, with that piece open it is messing up any number of systems that rely on a constant vacuum reading.

From the looks of that break, it is completely shattered, whoever broke that must have seriously abused something.

Yeah, its the metering oil pump vacuum hose.

For the record: your RX8 is not lubricating itself. Drive carefully.

its extremely easy to replace. With the right part it would take no more than five minutes to install. its just 1) pull out all broken pieces 2)push in new fitting

be very careful when you take out the broken pieces whatever falls into those holes goes right into the engine!

if any crumbs do happen to fall into the holes it would be worth your while to take the whole thing apart and fish them out. That section is pretty easy to remove/install since it isn't complcated.

RojoOcho 06-04-2007 07:36 AM

Can you just pull the remains out?

RojoOcho 06-04-2007 02:33 PM

UPDATE: I went to the dealership City Motors Mazda here in Greensboro and how about the service manager told me that I needed a whole new "air tube"! He tried to say that that elbow is part of the big tube of the intake and I needed that and a brand new hose.... Then I showed it to the parts guy and he needed an elbow and then the service manager came out and corrected him. Feeling they were trying to dupe me, I went to advance auto up the street and they pulled it out for me and got me set up with an elbow. Can you believe that?

4 Dollar Fix ftw!

Yep..........I can believe it! Not all dealerships are like that, but they make a lot of money on that stuff whether warranty or not........so many will try it.

:puke:

they don't call them stealers for nothing

think I paid several $$$ each for the OE part, see #13-758 on the attachment

RojoOcho 06-04-2007 03:35 PM

Yea, they wanted 8 bucks. I actually was giving them a shred of confidence but man oh man did they just nix that. Kinda sucks because I was planning on buying my next Mazda from them in a few months... Probably not now.
