Exclamation Airbag Warning Light

My airbag warning light has recently illuminated, and I paid $52.50 for dealer to hook up and find the problem.

They said the airbag harness has failed and will need to be replaced (taking the front dash completely apart, and removing the rear seats) and the bill would come to the tune of $1030.84.

I don't know what to do because I don't have that kind of money right now, but the airbag light annoys the crap out of me, and doesn't make me feel as safe anymore

Is there anything I can do besides what the dealer is telling me? Is it reasonable for this to be the problem?

Try the connection under BOTH seats. Under each seat there is a yellow & and a white wire connector / harness. Unplug them all then plug them back in. Every time an airbag light has popped up on me that fixed it. If that doesn't try another dealer. But I do not think there is much of an aftermarket airbag repair business. One would have to deal with a dealership to get them repaired and I am not sure how long they would warranty that repair also. That said money is also tight for me I would be ok with just using the seat belts.

Thanks expo. Tomorrow morning when I have some light I'll look under both seats and try that. I just have a hard time believing it would cost over $1000 to repair this, it's not that old of a car =/

It was pretty cool my dealer actually told me to try this last Fri and it worked for me too. I hadn't searched here yet 'cause I was still reading the Premix thread! Thanks to the good people who keep helping!

Dealer should fix this under warranty. SRS system warranty is longer than the standard warranty. My car had this issue and its out of warranty and they still fixed it.

Since I am well over 100,000 this would not apply to me, but can you please provide a link to any documentation that the air bag system has a warranty beyond the bumper to bumper.

For the record...............there is also another plug behind the glovebox that has caused this in rare cases.
9 times out of 10, it's usually the ones under the seats, and if you ask the person if they have recently moved the seat up and/or back, they will say "yes".

Since my code went away with just moving the wires under the seat, would it help to pull them apart and put dielectric conductive grease on them?
