It says the car thinks there is a problem with the air bag system. But most of the time you can make the light go away by disconnecting / reconnecting the connectors UNDER the seats.

if it is flashing, please post the pattern of the flashing, if it is solid please say so.

i think you may have bigger problems since your oil light is also on.

usually when the light is on it means that it is not functioning....also i like how in the first pic you took you're going 62MPH and at 6K RPM....would it not have been easier to stop and take the pic haha...

I wouldn't wait until your oil light is on to fill up/change the oil, at that point it is *very* low.

if I get a chance I'll try to look up what a solid airbag light could be

good luck.

--

*if there is no dtc (error code from the ODBII/CAN)*

[B1342, B1869, B1870 all could cause the light to go on solid, but the light should stay on until you shut off the car, I think. So if it is going off when you slow down...]

here's some info:

2
Air bag system warning light is illuminated constantly.

DETECTION CONDITION
Malfunction in air bag system warning light circuit (open circuit or short to power supply).
POSSIBLE CAUSE
• Weak battery
• SAS unit malfunction
• Instrument cluster (circuit board) malfunction
• No connection in SAS unit connector
• Poor contact in instrument cluster connector (24-pin)
• Open or short to power supply circuit in wiring harness between instrument cluster and SAS unit
• Poor contact at terminals 1T, 1X and/or 1W of SAS unit connector
• Poor contact in wiring harness between terminal 1X of SAS unit connector and ground
• Poor contact in wiring harness between battery and terminal 1W of SAS unit

^the man speaks the truth...well in renesis se3p's, dozer's and my case anyway - our light came on a couple of times and all we did was check the connection behind the glove box. I'm unclear as to what the exact wire ARE...but hey, it worked

There is a factory recall for the airbag wiring harness. You can check below to see if your model is covered (the 04 is what I checked). Hope that helps.

If you keep running around with your oil light on, I predict it won't be long before you kill this motor. Better start checking that oil when you are supposed to do so.
Oh.............and while the service receipt says they found an open in the harness of the airbag.............you know what that means? It was more than likely just unplugged. This happens especially after people have move the passenger seat back and forward. It's usually those connectors....although sometimes it can be the one behind the glove. Lucky for you it was no charge because I'm sure there are those out there that would charge at least 1 hour of labor to plug it back in.

look up the airbag light pattern code to tell you exactly what is wrong...
it's been on my thumbnail list of rx8club things to do [for you], just haven't got round to it.

good luck.

what up guys i have the air bag light and my 8 is a 2008. But my horn, radio controls and cruise control (not that I even use it) don't work as well. The sterring wheels doens even light up.

I checked all the connectors under the dash and in the sterring column and everything seems to be plugged in. I checked the connectors under the driver seat and they were firmly connected as well.

The air bag light pattern is flash once then goes away then flashes 9 times and goes away and repeats about 4-05 timesa before it is a steady light.

Any thoughts?
