Air Pump Delete
Okay so I bought the Racing Beat Air Pump Delete cover thingamagingy and i removed the entire air pump assembly. The pump was failing (high pitch whine) and I don't have a cat so that is why I removed it.
The weird thing though is that when I had it unplugged before, I was getting the CEL for the air pump. Now that the entire pump assembly and wiring is removed I am not getting the CEL for the air pump or the usual CEL due to the mid pipe. Could be a fluke, if not, then it's cool :) My only complaint is that for $15.00 shipped you would think they could include two nuts, two washer, and two bolts. |
When you did this, did you leave the resistor box connected and in the car? If so where did you mount it? I had thought about doing this and making my own block off plate, but wasn't sure.
Also what are you doing with that vacuum line that is not connected to anything now? |
The bracket for the air pump is two pieces, I removed the whole top piece with the pump and left the side piece that hold the resistor and supports the wiring harness to the ECU.
I left the resistor plugged in because I didn't know what it was for. The wiring for the pump was removed all the way back to the red plug on the fender. I'll take some more pics later. |
Right on, yeah I wasn't sure what the resistor was for either, so I figured I'd make a custom bracket or something to hold it.
|
I removed everything in Box #1, part #7.
I left everything associated with parts 11,12, and 13. https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...4&d=1225946446 |
The resistor has to stay or the car won't run - its for the fuel pump.
Same with part #13 - that is the BARO sensor. |

Same with part #13 - that is the BARO sensor. Yeah I didn't wanna remove shit randomly :) I left that side bracket there to support that sensor, hold the resistor and support the harness to the ECU. Grungepup and I were debating what type of sensor it is and he guessed right, haha. MM, do you know what the sensor is on the front bumper support? I moved it due to my single cooler install and just wonder if where I put it is okay. |
:lol2:
|
can't you just unplug it and leave the whole thing in place?
|
For some reason when I just unplugged it at the pump I got the CEL for it but when I removed it all and unplugged the whole harness, there is no CEL. But even if it comes back its no issue since I get the mid pipe CEL anyway. I just clear it each morning while my car is warming up anyway.
|
may have to give this a go then today, I've got the steel to make my bracket, just need to do so.
|
all my cel's are masked by the AP, so i just went out an unplugged mine. had it replaced 2 months ago, now it's making the sound again. the dealership was trying to tell me the sound is normal... lol

I think you are talking about the one for the "Outside Amb Temp" sensor for the dash display.

dont you only get the high pitch sound at start up? I mean isnt that the only time the pump really does anything? I've had the high pitch with a cold (30degree) start but it goes away in several seconds. Ive also gotten a CEL for pump aswell. Dealership basically told me it isnt really needed to begin with (our dealership is actually good down here).

i have a catless midpipe, so it's completely useless to me.. unplugged it for now. might get around to capping it off.

oh.. and for the delete plate from RB, isn't that originially meant to be used on the header where you would already have bolts for it?

that plate goes where part 10 blots to the ex-mani, that is why there is no bolts or washers in the kit. you reuse the ones already there. 8P

Yes but getting to those looked like a PIA and this was easy. |
Just did this today, and I made it out of a piece of aluminum.

I just put it on the tube for now. I didn't feel like tryin to put it down on the manifold, I figure if I ever do put a header on the car, I'll change it then. The piece I did does what its supposed to do, but doesn't look pretty while doing it.
Haven't driven with it yet, even though I know it won't make a difference. |
