yeah, i got a block off plate installed but when i try to start the car without the air pump hooked up, it runs super rough and dies out within a few seconds even if i try to keep it running with throttle.

Yup, you need to connect the barometric sensor and plug off the vacuum line.

I think I unplugged mine without knowing much about it after taking the cat off.
So is it better to leave it plugged in if you don't do anything else with it?

Leaving the air pump in place and functioning won't hurt anything. Removing it does not unlock any hidden horsepower and it weighs very little. Even with a midpipe, I'm not sure there's even a need to remove it and block off the port in the exhaust manifold.

@BigCajun I don't see what harm it would cause to leave it in place. All it's purpose is is cleaning up the emissions by adding air to the exhaust on cold starts and aids in complete burning of the exhaust emissions. It works in conjunction with the catalytic converter and even when one does not have one, it still won't hurt anything to leave it in place.

Umm it takes up room so if your not using it for its intended purpose (cat) then why not get rid of it.

I sometimes need the cat to pass inspection.
No sniffer, just visual.
The BHR midpipe fools them sometimes, not always.

Removing all pump and ancillary piping allows you to have greater access to that part of the engine bay.

Not only the baro sensor, but there is also the fat resistor pack for the fuel pump that should be on the bracket.

And just pop the vac tube off of the solenoid and cap it.

It doesn't go right to the pump itself. The vac tube comes from the back of the intake to the actuator that connects to the air pump.
