7k Missfire?
Had my RX8 1 1/2 months now and love it, such a fun car to drive.
Over the last week I have noticed a worrying blip (missfire?) in the power between the 6.5 and 7k RPM mark, most noticible in 2nd gear. Its pulling strongly then for 1/2 a sec the power drops then comes back strong again, a small blip but its deffinitly there.... Any Idears? Its second hand, done 28k miles and has the Mazda approved warrenty, so hopefully I covered if its something nasty?

You sure it's a misfire?
I assume it's a manual?
Do you have a code reader?
Did you get a CEL?
Check this thread and look at the dyno's for the NA cars and tell me you just aren't feeling the secondary ports open up. You're tach can be off by about 500rpm.

Is it raining when this happens? Do you have a CAI? I have the mazdaspeed CAI and I had a issue when driving in the rain even though i didnt drive though any puddles I somehow got water to the MAF and had a missfire at 7k

Yeah sorry missfire is prob the wrong word, it is dry when its happening, and it is pretty minimal, took me 4 runs to decide it was definitly there. Looking at the dyno, the port opening point is right where it is and it shows it breifly dropping a few hp, so that all sounds about right...... Dose that make me over sensitive, or do other people notice it too??

Over sensitive!
Yes.................you are over sensitive.................but you should feel better now!
Anyway..................yes, we all notice it to some degree. It does seem less if you go with the ignition upgrades that are available. And..............that statement may be backed up by some Dyno's or maybe not, but I can tell it's less and pulls through more smoothly. This is commonly referred to as "Butt Dyno".

Yeah much better now.... Ignition mod is already on the way back to thinking about the mods, would like to sqeeze an extra 20hp out of her, if thats possible? Would..... cold air induction, decat, pulley set and ignition mod get me near 20hp gain. Car's great love it.... but to me it just needs that extra bit of power to make it perfect

I'll guess with all you said, you'll get 1/2 of that 20.
Sorry............getting HP gains out of this car is tough, and expensive. Almost have to go FI to get real strong gains.

I went from 170whp to 180whp after doing the mazsport ignition
Full disclosure:
Different dynos, different days, different gas, wearing different color shirt
Take it with a grain of salt
Also, I too have ocassionally noticed a hesitation on WOT around 6k, some days it's noticeable and some days it will pull strong completely to redline
Seems to be more noticeable on hot days? Don't know if thats just my imagination at work
