The swap can be done, however it will be hard to do it properly.
It's not like a manual car where you just have to swap mechanical parts, you should also study the transmission management done by the PCM.

Auto to Manual swaps have been done and there are a couple detailed threads about it. As bse said, you're gonna have to look into the tranny management PCM.

Also, you may want to have a mod move this to the Series 1 forum, or delete your original post and post it in the right place. You'll get more traffic which will lead to more help that way.

If you plan on dong this mod you should make sure you have a large budget.
This swap can be come a little pricey.

As stated above this has been done, it can become a pain in the *** thou. Search the forum and see if this mod is really something you want to perform.

I'm pretty sure the 4at engine is different than what is used with the 6at, the 6at and 6spd share the same engine, the 4at does not share the same layout hence the lesser hp number. If you do this you will probably have to do both motor and tranny, I doubt you can use a 4 port engine with the 6 speed trans. Your only other option with the 4 port is a jdm 5 speed as they didn't sell the 4 port auto overseas, it was offered as a 5 speed manual instead in a lot of places.

I have a 4-port 4sp auto. Its similar to the US spec one except that its rated at 210 HP, instead of 197 HP (plus some other JDM extras like power folding mirrors etc).

This is doable however, getting the TCU to mate with the ECU will require quite a bit of hacking.

they're 2 different engines, I seriously doubt it can be done. The 4at is a 4 port, the 6at is a 6 port, unless the 4at is a 6 port also and just has them closed off or something.

Unless I'm totally insane, or the world of automechanics has changed that much, I really don't think a 4 vs 6 port engine is gonna make one ounce of difference to the transmission.

The 4port is essentially a 6port without the two extra ports. They are the same in size too. There are people here (in my city) who have done a 6sp swap in 4port engines, so I'm positive the 6at only requires the tcm to be mated properly.

Interesting, every time I've brought it up to people here locally they swear it can't be done, me personally I don't know much about it (and even less than I thought apparently lol) but I've always been told that they are different layouts and it won't work and blah blah blah. I know they're both 13b and all, i just thought there was some other reason that it wasn't a straight swap. Either way, if I was going to go through the trouble of making a swap I'd go 6sp manual anyway, or if I really wanted to do something I'd give these guys a call:
