30k service
I have hit 30,000 miles on my rx8.
Has anyone done the 30k service? How much did you pay? |
Mike,
I can't answer directly but this should help you find out. If you are following the 5K interval in the book, then you are adding manual transmission oil, rear differential oil and brake fluid, in addition to motor oil and oil filter. Mazda quotes some "labor hours" for this work under the free maintenance program. If this is coming out of your own pocket, at least this is a good idea of the additional time it takes for a competent technician to do it, (and give you an idea how much more someone will charge...). The labor hours for a standard oil change and filter is quoted at .5 to .8 hrs... The 30k service (at 5k intervals) is quoted at 1.5 hrs of work. |
the paperwork they sent me for the 30k check up was for 300.00
seems like way too much |

I was curious what others did or paid? |

Has anyone done the 30k service? How much did you pay? I paid $280 at galpin mazda in SCV. $300 is a bargain for most cars. My Explorer was $500, My 308 was $3400 and my 550 will be $7000. My Avaitor will be $700 |
Just make sure you only do what is in the owner's manual, as the dealer will try to sell you all kind of lies and "adjustments" Today's cars are surpisingly low maintenance .
The Ferrari high prices are due to engine removal being required to perfom cam belt replacement or adjustment? Am I right? I love Ferraris as much as the next guy, but you think they would have figured out how to use belts that don't wear out so fast or are self adjusting. You can understand on the 308 (not really if you think about it, those Ferrari engineers are really sharp guys even in the 80's), but it's really not excusable on the 550, don't you think? I would think that the owners would be outraged at these costs. And I know several wealthy people who own such cars, and they do not share the attitude that it just comes with owbnership. They have the attitude that they did not get to the place in life where they could afford such things by giving their money away, and many have since sold their ferraris for other cars. Not knocking the Ferraris at all, I'm just ticked that you have to pay that much, the money could do much more good spent elsewhere. Sorry you are selling your eight. I wish I was ready so I could buy it. You're the first guy who is selling at a fair price for a used car. The rest think that a few options make it worth the same as or close to new. |
Come on Mike, did you forget that your part of the So. Calf. Rx8 Club?
Oh yea, you hardly show up anymore. Call Robert in Cerritos at Browning Auto. Get the price, then use our club discount. |
i didn't pay anythign for my 30k check up...but i have that 4year/50k miles free scheduled maintance thingy:p

Likewise, my 30K checkup this past Saturday was free (Thank You Mazda!! :D ).
In addition to the 30K I had the brake pads TSB and reflash TSB performed. The service writer was concerned Mazda would not pay the whole bill because it was around $650. He must have just been thinking out loud because I still didn't pay. |

I do have the card
so I guess its free |
One thing my dealership told me is that I would need to come back at 35K to change the spark plugs and (if I remeber correctly) the air filter. Fluids were changed at 30K. Not sure why the 5K difference on the warranty card - it's not that way in the manual.

Schedule 1: 37.5 kmiles/30 months. |
Whoops - that's what I get for going from memory. Still, it seems kinda stupid to not do it at 30K - usually the plugs are replaced at a major service. I call it a major inconvenience.

well i took my car in today for 30k service and to fix my passenger window
the passenger window is stuck all the way down and I couldn't fix it |
Thats pretty funny because I just got my car back today from the 30k service that I dropped off the car for yesterday. I also never got the cabin air filter replaced at 24k and my wheels badly needed alignment so mytotal invoice came out to $450. I just wanted to get it over with even though it was probably a complete rip off.
|
I'm about to hit 30K miles as well--I told them I just want my oil changed though next Friday.
|
the window ended up having the switch that controls it broken and they have to order it now
but I love my kia rio rental NOT |
MikeB you shouldn't have been paying for any scheduled maintenance. Have you been?

I have not been paying
the card is for owners that bought the rx8 back in 03 we got 500 bucks and free service for 50k miles due to the horsepower issue |
I love tustin mazda
the relay in the window broke and they fixed that they also rotated the tires, changed the oil, changed spark plugs per manual instruction for 37k miles and completed the 30k service the bill was 470.00 but all covered under warranty the car is running great and the gas mileage seems a tad better for some reason |
I'm getting the 30k done next monday! We're all hitting 30k at the same time it seems! haha
|
I had my 30K last week - I've been really racking up the miles as of late.
30K Service + Replace the plastic fasteners for the wheel well (thanks to a truck retread) = $525 Unfortunately I don't have the card :( Here is what was on the receipt: Rotate tires, Complete Tune Up, Replace Cabin & Air Filters, Flush all Fluids, Check Belts & Hoses, charge system. Update: 451.11 for 30K service 33.57 to fix Mud Guard "Clips" 13.77 Enviro charges 30 tax dag |

Mine will hit 30K soon. If you really think about it, $300+ for adding & replacing some oil on a Mazda ...that's just not right. I guess they have to make money somehow.
|
ive had my plugs replaced 3 times now ( flooded it a few times ) im only at 23000 right now so all they really do is change the plugs and check some stuff???? i think down here it was like 369.00 in that range... but then again.. my mazda place down here dosent exist anymore :( if i had a card where would it be.. im not the original owner and i have no idea when the orig. bought Just cuz im not the orig. owner does that mean i couldnt use the card if i had it.. is it somehow in the computer system that i might have this???
|
jerky how many miles have u put on ur car since this thread started????
|
Wait.....so just oil change...sparkplugs...and filter...is that all? No other fluids?
|
The only other fluid i can think of is you get to take a piss in their latrine for free.
|
i was told 500, but that was including the plugs change etc. i have to go in a couple of weeks

Still got a long ways to go before I hit 30,000 on the new one. :p: |
i called again today to make the schedule, they told me 647 for the service...that is a lot higher then the original quote. i am going to have to call again tomorrow to find out why this is so much higher then what everyone else is quoting
|
The question now is where else can i go to. Any recommendation for Los Angeles area?
|
Damn I am getting my 30k here in about a month.
|
Galpin Mazda mailed me a coupon for $290.00 + tax, about $314. Still is a lot for an oil change plus a list of inspections. On the other hand, they gave me a 05 mazdaspeed miata as free rental for 4 days the last time I went there, it was a blast. One thing about Galpin is that they have good services and provide nice free rental cars. It depends on your luck. I've gotten Mustang GT, Mazdaspeed Miata and few Focus all for free while the car is in their shop. Maybe I'll go back.
|
I just did my 30K service. They billed me $616 (includes tax). Actually they combined 30K and 37.5K services together. They changed oil everywhere, replaced brake fluid, spark plugs and both air filters (intake and air conditioner).
|
rx8-rus, hate to tell you but you could have done all that for $200 on your own, but hey now it is all done, so might have been worth it.
|
I know, I know. I used to do oil change myself, but ceased it ten years ago. When I can afford to not get dirty I prefer to outsource the job. Moreover it is a major pain to do something under the car if you don't have a lift.
|
I'm resurrecting this thread because my 30K service is quickly approaching. I have heard a lot about this free service card that was given to early buyers of the car. I bought this car used last year, but I'm not sure if the guy had this card. (It's a 2004) I will check the folder with all the info he gave me next week when I get back home from school. Does the build date on my car have anything to do with this free service. If he got this card, but forgot to give it to me, will Mazda have it in their computer? Somehow I doubt they will tell me if I'm eligible even if they know I am. Thanks for the help!
