30k service
I have hit 30,000 miles on my rx8.
Has anyone done the 30k service? How much did you pay? |
Mike,
I can't answer directly but this should help you find out. If you are following the 5K interval in the book, then you are adding manual transmission oil, rear differential oil and brake fluid, in addition to motor oil and oil filter. Mazda quotes some "labor hours" for this work under the free maintenance program. If this is coming out of your own pocket, at least this is a good idea of the additional time it takes for a competent technician to do it, (and give you an idea how much more someone will charge...). The labor hours for a standard oil change and filter is quoted at .5 to .8 hrs... The 30k service (at 5k intervals) is quoted at 1.5 hrs of work. |
the paperwork they sent me for the 30k check up was for 300.00
seems like way too much |

Has anyone done the 30k service? How much did you pay? I paid $280 at galpin mazda in SCV. $300 is a bargain for most cars. My Explorer was $500, My 308 was $3400 and my 550 will be $7000. My Avaitor will be $700 |
Just make sure you only do what is in the owner's manual, as the dealer will try to sell you all kind of lies and "adjustments" Today's cars are surpisingly low maintenance .
The Ferrari high prices are due to engine removal being required to perfom cam belt replacement or adjustment? Am I right? I love Ferraris as much as the next guy, but you think they would have figured out how to use belts that don't wear out so fast or are self adjusting. You can understand on the 308 (not really if you think about it, those Ferrari engineers are really sharp guys even in the 80's), but it's really not excusable on the 550, don't you think? I would think that the owners would be outraged at these costs. And I know several wealthy people who own such cars, and they do not share the attitude that it just comes with owbnership. They have the attitude that they did not get to the place in life where they could afford such things by giving their money away, and many have since sold their ferraris for other cars. Not knocking the Ferraris at all, I'm just ticked that you have to pay that much, the money could do much more good spent elsewhere. Sorry you are selling your eight. I wish I was ready so I could buy it. You're the first guy who is selling at a fair price for a used car. The rest think that a few options make it worth the same as or close to new. |
Come on Mike, did you forget that your part of the So. Calf. Rx8 Club?
Oh yea, you hardly show up anymore. Call Robert in Cerritos at Browning Auto. Get the price, then use our club discount. |

Likewise, my 30K checkup this past Saturday was free (Thank You Mazda!! :D ).
In addition to the 30K I had the brake pads TSB and reflash TSB performed. The service writer was concerned Mazda would not pay the whole bill because it was around $650. He must have just been thinking out loud because I still didn't pay. |

I do have the card
so I guess its free |
One thing my dealership told me is that I would need to come back at 35K to change the spark plugs and (if I remeber correctly) the air filter. Fluids were changed at 30K. Not sure why the 5K difference on the warranty card - it's not that way in the manual.

Schedule 1: 37.5 kmiles/30 months. |
Whoops - that's what I get for going from memory. Still, it seems kinda stupid to not do it at 30K - usually the plugs are replaced at a major service. I call it a major inconvenience.

well i took my car in today for 30k service and to fix my passenger window
the passenger window is stuck all the way down and I couldn't fix it |
Thats pretty funny because I just got my car back today from the 30k service that I dropped off the car for yesterday. I also never got the cabin air filter replaced at 24k and my wheels badly needed alignment so mytotal invoice came out to $450. I just wanted to get it over with even though it was probably a complete rip off.

I'm about to hit 30K miles as well--I told them I just want my oil changed though next Friday.
|
the window ended up having the switch that controls it broken and they have to order it now
but I love my kia rio rental NOT |
MikeB you shouldn't have been paying for any scheduled maintenance. Have you been?
