^^i agree. as a side note, some trans fluids take some time to warm up and some transmissions do not like to be shiftet quickly or at high rpms until the trans if warmed up fully.

Bump Update on warranty

So i checked with my warranty and they basically raised the car up to see if there is any damage on the bottom of the car and they took pictures, of the bottom and the magnet. Mazda corporate replied they now need to take apart the transmission to take pictures of the inside to see if i have abused the tranny in any way.

They are telling me that i have to pay ~$1200 to take the tranny out take pictures of it and put back in for mazda corporate to make a decision. now if warranty doesnt approve the fix then i lose 1200 but if they do, the 1200 will be covered by mazda. If mazda disapproves it then the dealer will give me an estimate for how much it will cost and they said im looking at 4000-4500 to get it fixed without warranty

Im just looking for opinions at this point because i want to get it fixed but dont wanna lose 1200 to see if they can fix it. I searched the forum and it seems there are people who bought used trannys from mazmart and swapped it. what should i do? I was also told that most new cars have a computer chip in the transmission that records the way you shift and what RPM you shift at. is it worth the risk?

Tell them to EFF OFF and go to another dealer!! That is crap that it is $1200 to perform diagnosis!

TW I have never heard of a dealer taking apart a transmission. They typically are not qualified.

I think they are trying to screw you. I would call Mazda North America directly and ask why a dealer is potentially charging you for a warranty diagnosis on a problem you can re-create. I expect they are going to say we would never ask a dealer to disassemble a transmission because they wouldn't be able to put it back together.

shaun they open trans all the time to diagnose. they are going to find a bent shift fork. they will try to claim that some blueing they see on the clutch is confirmation of abuse. its not as some of the clutches come out of the box blued. also not being 100% perfect on every single shift is not abuse.

no. 1 thing not to say is "well it was fine when i went to the track". but seriously you could have bent it on the track and that would be abuse in which case you should pay for it.

i wouldn't tell them that i went to the track. and i doubt that going to track will mess it up. i don't know much about transmissions, but is there a way to figure out if its the shift fork for being bent that's causing that or is it the synchronization ring? one of my buddies told me to shift into neutral then let go of the clutch all the way and then shift into second gear and that worked with no grinding. and he said its probably the synchros.

if it is the synchronization ring, will it be easy to fix or is it gonna be pain to rebuild it?

a lift will make the job eaiser but is not a necessity. if you have access to the lift use it.

it will take longer if doing it on the floor and with out air tools.
try Oakland coliseum, or your local tranny shop, they could do it with a lower price tag.it should be 4 hours + parts.
